The problem is that a vehicle is probably the second most expensive thing that most people ever buy and when you bash their chosen brand they take offense on a personal level. that being said, I am also for the American workers but there were cases of people that were completely unskilled and uneducated making over $100K and thinking they deserved it(That figure comes from a newscast about a shooting at an auto plant in Ca years ago)Couple that with the free trade agreement and it truly spelled disaster for the American auto workers. I do agree with the poor quality of GM vehicles and I also believe that it played a role in their bankruptcy(Ford Didn't file) I have owned(and currently own)several Low mileage(around 50K)Gm vehicles and judging by many of the message boards they all seem to have a LOT of the same problems Example: ALL Grand prix 97-03 window regulators...Just ask an owner. High labor costs may have played a role in cutting corners on quality but it is also hard to compete with the labor costs from a third world country(Thanks Clinton!).
If people quit letting their ego's get in the way of making a decision GM would have probably went out years ago. Any way, The truth hurts, put on your big girl panties and go on!

Me gots myself a GM Truck. I like Budweiser and Hooter Girls. I gots myself a 3rd Grader Education. I works Hard at the Truck Plant in Detroit. I's a Hard Workin American Foot Soilder at Detroit Plant.

THem Asians cars and fancy European cars ..them NO GOOD. Too much electronic giggy gamagets.... Mes gots a HeadAche....

Me is satisfied with Block Head Camaro... BIG, FUN, and SIMPLE... oh FAST... not Technological.....

guys... bottom line... any educated person would take an asian or european car over a crap american. i worked at the bwm research center in munich and believe me, i made plenty of tours to detroit and we laugh at what goes on in the auto industry there... there is absolutely no comparison between the asian and european auto technology... i won't get into it, it's my job...
just pick up any "reputable" car magazine and become enlightened...

one point: the polymers that the american auto industry uses for their cars are of such a low quality that it is not even considered in asia or europe. it is equivalent to the airplane model kits that - you know - you used to play with as a kid...

next time you sit in a mercedes, touch the dashboard... compare it with a pontiac... or cadilac....

big difference....

don't waste you money on an american crap car... period

You Engineers Still Just Don't Get It. I have a 1999 Oldsmobile which I purchased 10 years ago, with cloth seats, I prefer cloth, looking for a new car though mine is working fine with only one overheated engine replacement at 110000 miles, I found the SEAT, you know the thing you sit on to move
place to place, it used to be called a wagon or chariot buggy buckboard ect. but the delux models had a cushion to set on, it seams to me this being the case Impala, I mean thousands of years now of seat building in vehicles, you would at least get a decent set, I mean come on $25000.00 what happend to the soft confortable cloth bench with room in the middle to place my whatknots, and the Passanger seat, Why cant the Passanger expect a powered reclining Cloth seat to be available that is not hot from the sun and cold from setting in the parking lot all day insted of Leather? Most new vehicles are jacked up to get the rear drive gears under the shortened wheelbase you cant see out the back to back it up. Impala is not one of them, and is a beautyful car but the seats are an insult, hard cheap, unpadded. No power recline or adjustment on the driver seat at all, If this doesn,t cause hip and back problems, I,ll be supprised. I think they should be taken off the market. All this technology and nice stuff to work with and you put in buckboard seats. "Really" your engenering is not that much. !!!!! . Thank You, Harry

I have a 2002 Saturn SL1. Granted it's probably the worst make of GM ever, but this is the reason why I will buy only Japanese and European cars (when I can afford them) from now on.

It only has 76,000 miles and already has major engine troubles. I kind of had it coming when I saw that the redline is 5,500 RPM compared to everyone else (6,000-6,500 RPM at least).

GM does suck. I have a 2003 impala that was the first american car i've had and i bought new. They just aren't built to last without high maintenance costs. I had a key ignition issue last month - $600 bucks. This month - intake manifold issue - $700 bucks. When i explained it to mechanic, he was like, "oh yeah I know what it is, we replace alot of those on chevys and cadillacs." I was thinking about getting a cadillac as next car, but they can forget it! Only way would be if it was with a lifetime warranty!

Finally bought a Toyota Camry! I was a believer in G.M. all my life (I am 54). They used to make good products, but the last 2 brand new cars that I had of theirs were total garbage. We take excellent care of our cars and both the Cutlass and Cutlass Ciera that I owned crapped out before they had 60,000 miles on them. Also, I have a $2,000.00 rebate on a new G.M. car and I bought the Camry instead. Until they clean up their act (maybe it is too late even), I will not buy their products.

My 2003 GM Safari is a basket case with 61,000 miles on it. ALL brakes calipers. rotors, pads have been replaced TWICE, (1500.00+) brake line replaced (1) 400.00+ Gas tank expansion valve gone, 495.00, door handles on rear broken, and more. What a piece of crap. This is why GM SHOULD go out of business. They pay their workers more than enough to maqke crap, and expect people to keep buying this s*&^%? NVEVER again, I'l buy a Toyota again like I should have. I have a Tacoma with 133,000 on it and its good for another 100,000. America needs to dump this company quick.

Some of you on here want to talk about how great gm is, well explain to me about the 2003 grand am gt. This thing is a pile of junk. The clips that hold the windows and move them up and down break constantly, cheap plastic crap, I could make something better in my garage. The radio is a pile of crap, the air conditioning selector switch broke off, the valve cover gasket leakes oil. Just poor quality all around. I have nothing against American cars and nothing against the unions that put them together, its not the peoples fault, its the cheap shitty products that they are given to install on these cars. This partical Grand Am just turned 70,000 miles, absolutely ridiculous having these problems with that little miles on it. JUNK.

GM does suck. If people read consumer reports they have been bad for over 20 years. I had a 1988 Trans-Am that broke down constantly. I take my car in for service and oil changes regularly. I now own a BMW and never have problems. GM The company that built the x-cars, Corvair and Fiero. All Genuine GM JUNK!! Worse of all the company knew the cars were defective and still built them. Very Smart America! Wait and see GM go under in a few years. Its their own fault. Look in the mirror US auto makers you do not stack up.

Check the price of Civics vs Cavaliers(or whatever they are calling them now), Accords vs Malibus, etc. You will see which car holds value, and I can wager why that is. I have owned all domestic vehicles since I was 16(too cheap to buy foreign, paid for it 3x over in repairs). Olds, Ford, and worst of all, GM. All had regular maitainence.

My 2002 honda civic has 160000 miles, ask me why so many miles because my husbands 2002 dodge ram is such a gas guzzler my car is the one being used all the time. His truck has 60,000 miles and has required at least twice a year major repairs add couple thousand a year to cost of owning the dodge. Where nothing on my civic except cost of regular maintence and just recently new brake pads. ilove my honda and he can't wait to trade the piece of crap dodge in on another Honda.

"In fact, my 1996 Explorer with 163,000 miles is still on the original transmission and, *gasp*, the original engine. How many radiators, timing belts and water pumps would a Civic go through by that point? My 99 Olds Alero had 150K when I sold it. My 04 GTO’ll stomp whatever Honda challenges it and still gets 25 mpg AND is an absolute pleasure to drive. "

My 2000 Civic has 154k on it. Still original engine, radiator, tranny, etc. I had the timing belt/water pump replaced at 90k as scheduled service. It would probably still be running fine though. I have been told that even if the timing belt failed on my Honda, the engine wouldn't be damaged.
Any Honda that challenges it? Hmmm....Okay, how about this challenge. Best gas mileage. My best recorded tanks have been around 45mpg. Can you even come close?
And I have no plans to stop driving my Civic. I plan to drive it 400k+ if I can. I have been told these new Honda's will get about 500k on the engines.

Something just has to be said about the following quote from "honda owner":

"I don’t buy american cars because I think they’re made in large part by dumb “good ol’ boys”. My brother bought a Ford Ranger. When he showed it off to me, it had a flashlight laying in the engine, and a beercan inside the door (behind the trim). He was embarrassed."

This is perhaps the stupidest, most un-thought-out statement I have ever heard! You, Honda Owner, are a stupid dumbass. Your statement sounds like it was fabricated by a 12-year old who just got high for the first time. I seriously cannot believe that you are capable of operating a computer, let alone a motor vehicle. Frankly, I think ha just made this crap up!

American autoworkers are some of the hardest working people on the planet, moron. They aren't just good ole boys, as you say. We come from all backgrounds and all walks of life. Just because we're from the Midwest and not from New York or California, or whatever yuppie/liberal city you come from doesn't make you ANY BETTER THAN US! Do you understand that concept, genius? We are people just like you, go to work in the morning like you, have families and houses just like you... However, unlike you, we are proud of our country and the goods that we produce.

I am 26 years old and have owned or still own a 1968 Pontiac Lemans, 1993 Mercury Tracer LTS, 1994 Plymouth Acclaim, 1996 Ford Explorer, 1997 Ford Taurus, 1999 Olds Alero and a 2004 Pontiac GTO and have had minimal problems with all of them. In fact, my 1996 Explorer with 163,000 miles is still on the original transmission and, *gasp*, the original engine. How many radiators, timing belts and water pumps would a Civic go through by that point? My 99 Olds Alero had 150K when I sold it. My 04 GTO'll stomp whatever Honda challenges it and still gets 25 mpg AND is an absolute pleasure to drive.

The next time you have a weekend off, why don't you take a trip to Flint, Detroit, Cleveland or Lansing and see just what kind of people actually build American cars. Try talking to a few of them. Maybe then you'll understand exactly why people like me dislike Jap cars, people who preach about how great Jap cars are, and most important, people who bitch about how terrible our country and our products are.

Don't make me lay into the V6 Accords, Acuras and Odysseys with their catastrophic 20k transmission failures, rotten out radiators and EGR issues. Or how about your precious Civics terrible build quality, defective exhaust work and cooling system problems. How about the rust-prone Mitsubishi EVO with its premature engine failures?

Seriously... all of you out there that had a 1983 Chevy Citation or 86 Dodge Aries and therefore think that all Domestics are junk need to re-evaluate your situation and take a new Ford Fusion Sport or Pontiac G8 for a test drive and see that the field had leveled off. In the meantime, try to refrain from making remarks as ignorant and as stupid as the one this jackass made! American born, American built, American bought: The way it should be.
