The first disbursment from my Mom’s thrift plan showed up in my account this morning. It was about $1414, over a $100 more than I was expecting. Cool. I originally put in an order for $1500 worth of iShares S&P SmallCap 600/BARRA Growth fund (IJT) because I already had a little of the other funds that I want build my Roth IRA with. But I changed my mind, cancelled that order, and placed an order for $1000 of iShares MSCI Emerging Markets Index (EEM) and $500 of iShares Dow Jones US Real Estate (IYR). I decided that these funds have done the best over the last so many years. Next month, I will probably buy $1500 of the IJT, and then in the following month, round off the Roth with $1000 of DVY. Then I can start working on funding my wife’s Roth IRA.
