I had read about a new virus that can be imbeded in a graphics file, and can infect a computer just by visiting a web site. So I know Microsoft was rushing out a patch. I just installed the latest Microsoft patch, and now my computer is running like a slug when accessing webpages. It’s like they added something to search everything being downloaded, and it is doing it extremely slowly! I am almost thinking I might rather risk infection than having my computer run this slowly.

I tried my laptop that hadn’t had the patch installed, and that was running slow too. I rebooted everything (computers, DSL modem, router). Still slow. I then suspected that it was related to phone problems I had had the last couple days. They actually swapped out some segments of line. I called my ISPs tech support line, and they had me run a DSL speed test. I couldn’t even get the thing to complete. The guy said something about re-mapping my connection, and had me hold. After a long while, he came back and said they were having some sort of major problem downtown, and apparently EVERYONE’s DSL was running slow. I am glad it is not my computer.

I think my ISP fixed whatever their issue was because my DSL speed seems to be back to normal.
