Yesterday morning, I got up to check my websites, and mail. I usually leave my computer on all the time. But outlook seemed to have gotted sort of error overnight. It shutdown. I went to re-start it, and then my computer just rebooted on it’s own. I run Windows XP which is generally pretty solid. The computer was taking forever rebooting. It seemed to be stuck. I unplugged it, and then plugged it back in. It eventually booted, but as soon as I tried to do anything, it started rebooting again. It still rebooted slowly, and would eventually try to re-boot in the middle of the boot.
This was making me nervous, as this is the computer that I build and run my websites from. This computer helps make me money! Fortunatly I do have a laptop, so I was able keep working.
I enventually booted it up into safe mode. This seemed to work fine. I took the opportunity to backup some stuff over to my external hard drive.
I deleted some big stuff, and ran a disk cleanup. This didn’t fix the problem. I rebooted the computer into safe mode again. I used system restore as this has saved me from computer problems in the past. I restored it to a couple days earlier. I rebooted my computer, and finally it rebooted.
Now I have been working cleaning off software that I don’t use. I am going to try to get rid of a lot of the stuff in my startup. I think that would help my machine boot faster, and run better. I hate it when every program supplier thinks their stuff is so important that they have to put junk in the startup just so their stuff will start faster.
