1. Although written in the first quarter of the century, this book is still applicable. I constantly read and listen to motivation/success books and tapes, and this is the best I've read yet. I am striving to become a motivational speaker and writer, but, after reading this book I have to question my own abilitity. Sometimes it seems to me that everything pertaining to success has already been written, but I know there is always room for top-notch success teachers and movers. As Napoleon Hill states in Law of Success "I know your weaknesses because I know my own. It has required the better part of 25 years of ups and downs-mostly downs--to impress these basic truths upon my own mind so that they influenced me. I have tried both them and their opposites; therefore, I can speak, not as one who merely believes in their soundness, but as one who knows."



2. Napoleon Hill was commissioned by the richest man in the world at the time, Andrew Carnegie, to create an economic philosophy. Carnegie said philosophers had concentrated on morals, and there were plenty of moral philosophies, but not one economic philosophy, and it was a shame. Every person who had risen from poverty to wealth had to do it on his own, learning from the brutal (and slow) trial-and-error method. Carnegie thought that was wrong, and he challenged Napoleon Hill to correct it.

   Carnegie then gave Hill letters of introduction to the most successful men of the time: Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, F. W. Woolworth, William Wrigley Jr., etc. Hill interviewed (and in some cases LIVED WITH) over five hundred extremely successful people, many of whom you have heard about, to discover what philosophy they used in succeeding. After twenty years of this kind of research, he created an adult education program. The writings for that program were eventually bound into eight volumes, and now they are all bound into one giant book. It's great. I'm the author of the book, Self-Help Stuff That Works, and I know from personal experience that the principles Hill writes about WORK! And he is fun to read.




3. Laws Of Success

   This book is a must read if you want to do anything worthwhile; while you here on this planet!

   It sucks that most personal motivators today, such as Anthony Robbins, Brian Tracy, and men of the like, are taking all the credit for this book. Yea! They mention the man (Napoleon Hill) for his finds but they take the credit for being responsible for such a book available. I learned more from this book about this life and chemistry of every person and thing alive on this planet, from plant life, to animal life, than all my years in school classrooms.

   High school students, College students, trade school students, people out there searching for their identities if you are, or have been raised in this world in a poor, or low middle class environment, the only real chance you have in this life is to get your hands on this book. While many people out there are trying to screw you of your belongings, such as money, reputation, self control and other personal possessions, this book will guide you through a hard core situation such as; depression, self control overeating, drug abuse, and all of the bad habits we acquire here on this planet, from TV commercials and Radio commercials and some bad influential so called friends.

   Big companies spend millions of dollars on paid advertisement because they have read this book from cover, to cover and over and over and now they are using it against you.

   I can almost guarantee you that a lot of big companies such as Mc Donald's, Starbucks and companies alike, have mastered this mans philosophy and now they are using against you to get you to spend all of your money on their over priced service. I would put my life on the fact that McDonald's took this mans writings and used it against parents by building a small playground in their restaurant so the parents can eat while the kids are safe playing. This is an idea that has been written by this man because I read it in the page of this book and McDonald's has been using it to fatten people up for two or three decades now.

   This book will tell you how someone's last five hundred dollars paid for a simple chemistry ingredients that produced Coca Cola. And now it has become a great support of jobs for so many. I learned more about this Country's freedom from this book than every History book I passed by when going to school. Learned about Autosuggestion, the number one agency to getting anything you want by applying this formula to your daily prayers. Learn about how some Doctors are keeping the fear of Ill health in the hearts and minds of millions of people for their pocket book.

   Find out how to use a mastermind alliance for your only true success if things seem helpless today. Know that all big companies today have mastered the law of this idea called mastermind alliance and that's how they are becoming Giants through a mastermind merge. This was the first man to describe the philosophy of a mastermind alliance. First time heard through the words spoken by Andrew Carnegie. Know that a positive and mental attitude is only one of seventeen principles of true success. "Yea! You hear about having a positive and mental attitude by other Authors. But those Authors don't tell you the rest of the principles and how to apply them successfully. Learn about why is it that every application you fill out, has the question of how much is in your savings account???

   Napoleon Hill describes how a simple habit of saving five or ten dollars a week can add to substantial amounts and not in money alone, but! In other areas of your life. Through good or bad habits you build definite life style. How are your habits?

   This is where the term The Golden Rule became produced through building facts, upon facts, and other people's trial and error. Know how important it is to have a definite chief aim in life and how to build a burning desire to acquire it's final destination. How to apply the habit of going the extra mile, when people today don't even want to go the first mile.

   Self-confidence? One must have this formula to succeed in anything, But here Napoleon Hill doesn't only tell you one must have this ingredient, he tells how to apply this by an autosuggestion formula that you must write down and than read it everyday again and again, until this formula becomes the burning desire that will work for you day and night through a metaphor that a lot of people want you to believe does not exist but it does and that my friend is ETHER! What is ether? (Look it up in your dictionary) This book will explain it to you how it works on humans, but only after your mind has been opened to accept such a formula.

   It is a formula you cannot see, it is a formula you cannot touch, taste, feel, or smell, it is a formula that if you learn to believe in it, will protect you through an agency indescribable. And know that everything that you do bad or good will come back to you many times over. Sometimes the get back waits until it has time to build and all of as sudden there it is, smacking you right in the face of reality. "So you better be good for goodness sake!"

   Reading this book alone will not manifest a thing until it is applied and used accordingly. I have proofed this man's writings to be true because I am applying the formulas to my life now and so have a lot of other people. Who am I, to disagree with them? "IT AINT NO FREE RIDE BUT IT'S WORKING!" FIND THIS BOOK AND GO GET IT!




4. i have read this book many years ago and have told a lot of people about this book law of success. and even after about 6years after reading it i still apply the thing he says and it helps me 110%. so if you want to succeed and change the way you think about your life this book will do it! it done it for me and done it for other people so why not you.The book is so good im going to teach and show my daugher this and tell her everything in the book when she gets older to understand it! buy it and become a success forever! all the best keith jones



5. If you were to read just one book by Hill, this one should be that book. It is powerful and loaded with information. Using this information accelerated my professional and personal life. Nobody does it better than Napolean Hill.

   And by the way, I don't recommend that you read only one book by Hill. I have a nice library of Napolean Hill books, still don't have them all, but am working on it. Each one seems to add to the previous. They are similiar, yet different.

   This one should be read perhaps even ahead o f Hill's classic Think and Grow Rich.

1. A mega-wealthy business mentor and friend told me that this was the guidebook along with the bible he lived to dominate "Success", financially and spiritually. I heard that as a command to search as long as it took to find this book. As that was my mission as did I receive, a mint 1954 third edition. This document contains a conversation between Andrew Carnegie and Napoleon Hill which describes to the smallest detail the Principals for Success, they are PRICELESS. First Printing 10,000 June 1953 Second Printing 10,000 September 1953 Third Printing 50,000 April 1953 Note: this book is rare but the are out there. Also advised was Think and Grow Rich *****



2. A rather contrived, mediocre book that is commanding high prices in the used book market. It is a conversation between Napoleon Hill and Andrew Carnegie concerning priciples of success. You can find the same information (at a lower cost too) in Hill's famous book, Think and Grow Rich.



3. This is essentially a transcript of Napoleon Hills interview with Andrew Carnegie. This is the raw information that along with 20 years of research lead Hill to write Think and Grow Rich, Master key to Riches, The Law Of Success et. al. Reading this interview is akin to reading the Bible in it's original form without translation. It gives one the opportunity to get at the raw data. OUTSTANDING, a must read for anyone pursuing self improvement and success.



4. In my opinion, this is by far the best book written by Napoleon Hill, not in literary sense, but in the way it conveys the information. For some reason the content is more easily understood. The principles of success are described much better, more plainly than in any of Hill's books. It contains explanations that are not found in any other of his works. This is a must-read along with Think and Grow Rich and The Law of Success.



5. It is almost impossible to imagine that this book was published more than 50 years ago. It is really a book that outlines the rules of gaining success in the business world. These qualities are recorded by Napoleon Hill, but are tenants of success that Andrew Carnegie used in his lifetime. Very interesting read. I believe that this book was a foundation for all the modern books about business, professional and personal development as well as career development.

1. This book is really good, the author tells you real life stories of people that has follow the simple rules that begins with a "burning desire". Read it, it will help you a lot to find your way to success. This is "the secret" but well explained.

1. Having already read Think & Grow Rich, I didn't think that there was anything more that I could learn about PMA. I figured that this would be more of the save only on a different cover. Boy was I surprised!
   
   W.Clement Stone and Napolean Hill joined forces for this text. W. Clement Stone used the principles in Think & Grow Rich to amass a personal and self made fortune in excess of $400,000,000
   when that was worth $400,000,000.
   
   I found chapter 2 particularly interesting. How Robert Christopher was able to travel around the world in 84 days with only $80 merely as a result of setting it as a goal, conceiving, believing and then achieving it is impressive.
   
   Success Through A Positive Mental Attitude is divided into five parts, 19 chapters and over 300 pages. It's a fun, easy read and provides powerful strategies i.e. pilots to succeed.
   
   In 1990, I met a very successful businessman who told me he went from unemployment living in Tampa, Fl to over $2.5 million and moved to Hawaii where he bought a boat and retired in only 18 months using these principles along with the right opportunity.

I've read Think and GRow Rich at least 20 times, and now Read this one at least 2times going on Three now..I received Spiritual blessings because of these principles that cannot be measured in money or material things.. only in the eternal. Now I am being prepared for My wealth, My Million dollar ideas to manifest into reality. I am now practicing these principles daily and look forward to the physical manifestation which has been prophesied by prophets, preachers, and people who don't even know me..The seed was planted years ago now What has been sowed is being reaped. Wealth is circulating in my life, this wealth flows to me in avalanches of abundance. All my needs, desires, and goals are met instantaneously.

3. postive mental attitude...I liked this book, when i was getting down on myself i found that reading this book lifted my spirits somewhat. I just didnt like the printing and size of the book. Other than that...the material was pretty good. buy it used...



4. The first batch of significant books that had the greatest influence on me in terms of attaining personal achievement includes mostly Napoleon Hill's books:
   
   - The Law of Success;
   - Think & Grow Rich;
   - The Keys to Success;
   - Success through a Positive Mental Attitude;
   - Succeed & Grow Rich through Persuasion;
   
   The others were from Clement Stone, Dale Carnegie, & Earl Nightingale.
   
   That was the early 70's when I had just started work as a young engineer.
   
   The author, Napoleon Hill, had impressed me most by his relentless dedication in spending some two to three decades of his life in pursuing & researching the success secrets of the rich & famous...with a little help from Andrew Carnegie, of course.
   
   As matter of fact, many of the famous people he interviewed were also favourite role models of mine e.g. Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, just to name a few
   
   Till this day, I have never forgotten what he said:
   
   "The most powerful instrument we have in our hands is the power of our mind."
   
   I have never ceased to be fascinated by the simplicity & the potency of his ABCs of personal achievement: CONCEIVE, BELIEVE & ACHIEVE!
   
   It is certainly enlightening to note that even Stephen Covey had drew inspiration from Napoleon Hill's work even though he never made that credit. He only admitted that the 7 Habits had its origins from "200 years of success literature in the United States." That remark itself is self explanatory.
   
   Anthony Robbin's Mastery program as embodied in his books as well as his audio/video resources is no exception, even though he has been influenced in larger extent by NLP.
   
   If you look at & compare the 17 principles of personal achievement in 'The Law of Success' &/or the 13 Steps to Riches in 'Think & Grow Rich', one can obviously see the uncanny resemblance of the 7 Habits & the Mastery principles...in one way or another.
   
   At this juncture, let me outline the principal theme of each book:
   
   The Law of Success: the original course on the fundamentals of success - all the seventeen essential principles of personal achievement;
   Think & Grow Rich: The seventeen essential principles are reframed & condensed in terms of thirteen concrete steps to wealth creation (in actuality, this is a condensation of the Law of Success);
   The Keys to Success: a further elaboration of the seventeen essential principles with concrete suggestions, exercises & advice;
   Success Through Positive Mental Attitude: joint authorship with Clement Stone, with a further emphasis on developing a positive mental attitude;
   Succeed & Grow Rich Through Persuasion: joint authorship with Clement Stone, with a further emphasis on developing master salesmanship & networking;
   [It is pertinent to note that Clement Stone actually built his insurance business empire with these principles.]
   
   My most productive, personal learning experience from Napoleon Hill's work is the understanding - application - of his success principle #1: Develop Definiteness of Purpose.
   
   [Very surprisingly, J Y Pillay, former Chairman of Singapore Airlines, - who had been credited for building the airline to what it is today, A GREAT WAY TO FLY! - also credited his work axiom to this same success principle, but he attributed it to an ancient Hindu scripture known as Bhagavad Gita.]
   
   I am certainly gratified to note that Napoleon Hill's work had casted so much influence on - & empowered - so many people in the world, including myself.



5. This is unquestionably one of the very best books on the science of personal success. Written in the same vein as the Napoleon Hill classic, "Think and Grow Rich," this book is full of inspiring examples of how focusing the mind upon intended positive outcomes can be the catalyst to great accomplishment and personal growth.
   
   The message is extremely powerful and its strict application MUST invariably lead you towards the fulfillment of whatever aims you focus its principles towards.

1. This book was pracitically written for the ambitious young man, as there are many references to this. Mr. Carnegie serves as a great role model, which I feel is quite important, especially considering the terrible events in schools lately. Carnegie emphasizes the importance of self-improvement, knowing your talents, being kind, and also the importance of public speaking. You will learn important lessons thru personal anecdotes of his life. This book should be required reading for every adolescent attending high school.



2. It has been over a year since I ground my way through this book. My lack of adaptability to the Olde Worlde English may have contributed to this. I found this to be a long book about an interesting individual whose sole purpose for writing the book, I have concluded, was to leave a lasting, self-congratulatory reminder of his own life. I must disagree with a previous review that stated it was a must for any young ambitious person. I am; it wasn't.
   For sheer inspiration from another person's life, I would recommend works on Lincoln, the Wright brothers (Kill Devil Hill), Richard Branson, Edison, Spielberg, Mme Curie, Bruce Lee, Iacocca and Einstein.



3. The vanity of today's uneducated society is breathtaking. White is black and black is white and 'a little knowledge' is indeed proving very dangerous. This book (along with the autobiography of Benjamin Franklin) should be read by every American citizen - to relearn what America once represented.

   For example, Carnegie Steel, the world's largest company in 1900, was NOT a corporation; it was a private partnership. The sale of the company to JP morgan (for half a billion dollars) was done on a handshake; a contract was a mere afterthought. Reputation and honesty and customer service were THE guiding principles of the era. 'Individual responsibility' was considered a good thing in those days.

   America now has more lawyers per capita than any other nation on Earth. Our politicians now attempt to micro-manage every detail of our lives. You break a fingernail and sue the universe. We have become terrified of freedom. Read this book if you want to understand how America rose from a third world country to a superpower between 1800 and 1900 - without government intervention or welfare or all the millions of rules and regulations we now hold so dear. We have traded away our freedom for security. The price is higher than you think.




4. I'll admit that my primary motivation for reading this book was somewhat shallow--I basically wanted to read about how one of history's most successful businessmen amassed so much wealth. To be honest, the book didn't really give as many details as I would have liked on that particular interest. But what I got along the way made the book worth it.

   First and foremost, after reading 350 pages of Carnegie writing about his life you feel like you really start to know him, to get a sense of what kind of human being he was, and even to get a sense of his somewhat remarkable confidence level that exists in conjunction with his pretty inspiring level of benevolence and compassion. But I think even more than getting a sense of Carnegie, you get a sense of the time he lived in. Some of the most engaging parts of the book for me were the first-hand accounts of Lincoln during the Civil War, or Carnegie's conversations with President Harrison about a small uprising in Chile. You also hear about how he handled the strikes of steel workers, an occurence I'd only read about in history books but never learned directly about from the perspective of the manager.

   All throughout Carnegie peppers with his nuggets of wisdom, and you get the feeling he knows people want them really badly but that he chooses to give them sparingly.

   In the end, I probably will never re-read this book, but I feel better educated about one of history's greatest industrialists, greatest benefactors, and the time he lived in after having read it. If you have a nascent interest in history, you will most likely enjoy this book; if you're looking for a "how to make your millions" from a master, I would look elsewhere.

Born in Scotland but an immigrant to the United States as a teenager, Andrew Carnegie has been variously characterized as a "captain of industry" or a "robber baron" by those who have chronicled his rise to wealth and fame in the latter nineteenth century. After selling his steel company to J.P. Morgan at the turn of the century, Carnegie devoted himself to philanthropic goals. He gave away more than $350 million to various causes and endowed more than 250,000 libraries. His philanthropic activities were underpinned by a fundamental belief in the virtue of hard work, perseverance, and self-improvement through education, hence his emphasis on libraries and the endowing of other educational organizations. Fundamentally, this book offers a restatement of the "Horatio Alger" myth of the "American dream" of success through personal commitment. At the same time Carnegie seeks to pass on his wisdom gained through a lifetime of effort. A significant and fascinating statement of American industrial individualism that is required reading for all who wish to understand the history of the United States in the latter nineteenth century, Carnegie's autobiography also served as a model for many others to follow. Unfortunately, few achieved the success that Carnegie enjoyed despite the diligence they may have registered.

1. I guess I was expecting more from a book written more than 60 years ago that supposedly sold millions of copies and was a legend in the sales business. Glad I read it, but struggled through the style. Long, boring references to a bunch of common sense stuff that frankly does not have much relevance in 2008. Oh, well. I guess you get what you pay for, but I don't think I got $4 worth of value from this antiquated look at society, except in historical terms.
