5 comments about Foreign Currency Trading: From the Fundamentals to the Fine Points.
  1. ... I have no idea what objective these guys had in mind when they sat down to write this book.... This book is just a bunch of information thrown together (probably downloaded from the internet) and they obviously took no time to put any real effort into this book. I was terribly dissappointed with my purchase of this book.....look elsewhere if you are interested in getting started in forex trading.

  2. As others have said clearly, this book is a waste of trees, ink and the time of its reader. The "authors" should be ashamed of such blatant hucksterism and poor description of even the most basic aspects of trading. Even if you are a neophyte, look somewhere else.

  3. I'll summarize this book for you -- "Foreign Currency Trading is difficult, if you want to learn more, send us some more money and we will enroll you in a class."

Save your money, buy yourself a newspaper instead.

  4. Well when i grow up i to be Russell R Wasendorf, whether sr. or jr. I think these two are the greatest salesmen around. I bought a wonderful book which adorns my bookcase and adds colour and life to my room. Whats more is that i found the same book in my brother's home. Thinking he 'borrowed' it I asked him, He replied saying he 'invested' in it and it works well as a sleep aide . Seriously some points for beginners are reasonably covered but most of the book was a waste of time, paper and resources. There were no Fine points covered in the book to memory but if there were it was lost in the dribble.

  5. I was looking for a basic book teaching the concepts and trading practices and fundamentals. This book has a lot to say about none of the topics needed to help someone become a trader. If you are looking to have someone trade your account you might be helped by it. There are a lot better books out there "Getting Started in Currency Trading" is a fine example. This is the best buy for the money when you are done reading it you will be much better informed to move ahead. Getting Started in Currency Trading: Winning in Todays Hottest Marketplace (Getting Started In.....)

1 comments about The Currency of Socialism: Money and Political Culture in East Germany (Publications of the German Historical Institute).
  1. The author is to be commended for his engaging description of the hypocritical, contradictory and self-defeating economic policies of the unlamented German Democratic Republic. His book does a better job than some others out there, such as "Dissolution," in minimizing the economic jargon but giving pithy, telling anecdotes about the average East German citizens' gripes about the glaring inequities of "real, existing socialism." The ironies are not lost, either. The author makes the excellent point that, had the Federal Republic not bailed the GDR out in the early 80s from impending collapse, Honecker probably would have been sacked. That outcome would probably have staved off the GDR's demise, since some kind of rational recognition of that country's economic liabilities and limitations would have been called for. Instead, Honecker's retention of his position as General secretary of the ruling SED virtually guaranteed the catastrophic continuation of his unrealistic policy of providing consumer goods and social services while paying off huge debts to the West. In the end, he failed at both, and for that, at least, we have to backhandedly thank the late Honecker for hastening communism's death.
The book makes the case that the effort of the socialist state to make money a medium of social equality rather than an expression of heirarchy or social position was doomed from the start. Contempt for money as an instrument of capitalist exploitation was confused by the recognition that money had to be provided to workers for compensation. Caught between this scylla and charybdis the SED wound up minimizing the value of its currency while expecting its citizens to hbe loyal to it. Naturally, such a Janus-faced approach gave the GDR's money no chance at competing with the West German Mark, which became the de facto currency of meaningful exchange, both in the government run Intershops and the thriving black market. As thr author points out, having to compete with its wealthier German brother to the west put the GDR behind the eight ball from Day One. When the rhetoric of resisting fascism for a utopian future began to get stale with the younger East Germans, the only option was to borrow money from the West to import consumer goods. Thus began the cycle of spiralling indebtedness, an export driven industry at the expense of the local consumer and cannibalizing local capital stock to pay off more debt.
This is an excellent addition to the library of any fan of GDR studies or the social economic dynamics of the Cold War.

  2. I would love to read this book because I heard it was amazing, BUT Elephant Books sent me the wrong book. Now they will not return my phone calls or numerous emails, and they were done in good taste so I do not understand why they would not return my messages. Just wanted you all to know so you do not get shafted like I did. Have a great day!

  3. Get this book if you intend to use the Internet to market your business in
any way. It is loaded with marketing ideas and there are enough of them so

author recommends, and lots of web sites to visit as a follow up. I got
about 6 great ideas out of this book. Two or three would have made it
    worthwhile.

  1. This book about money is a must read for anyone who wants to know more about our current economic condition and God's take on money. The book very readable and broken into chapters that are easily digestible. It discusses past, present, and future with regards to money. Even when the book focuses on the history of money, it is never boring, but instead shows us that the path we are on was chosen long ago. This book should be required reading for almost anyone.

2 comments about Standard Catalog of United States Paper Money.
  1. I'm interesting in catalog of all US paper money. Something o it. Am i find my interesting?

  2. This work, along with Friedberg's book and Hessler's work, make up the three primary basic reference works on United States Currency. The Catalog contains an excellent reference section on National Bank Notes, receiving much more press than in Friedberg's work. The pricing, while out of date, is actually fairly realistic in today's market, unlike the Black Book or even Friedberg's book. A great plus is that this work is cross referenced by Friedberg Numbers, which are the standard cataloging numbers used by all dealers and collectors in the hobby. Well worth the investment!
