  1. The chapters explained the concepts for the accounting class I was taking. When it came to doing the homework problems you could not go to the book to understand how to work the problems. The questions for test were not readily found in the various chapters. In my opinion this book did not work together to help me understand the principles of the book.

1 comments about The Controller's Guide: Roles and Responsibilities for The First Years.
  1. Steven Bragg is a totally insightful and unique accounting writer, and as usual, he provides a very interesting discussion with this text. For me, it both inspired me to seek to become a Controller - and at the same time, discouraged me from hoping to ever becoming one. He sets the bar very high! But if your current job title is Controller, you should probably buy this book, and get to work reading and implementing its recommendations immediately, even though you have practically no chance of incorporating even 20% of these suggestions.

The main reason for my low "3" rating on the book is the weird and VERY problematic extra small font-size TEXT, which the author hopefully had nothing to do with. It must have been a publisher/cost savings nightmare idea gone terribly wrong! It is microscopic.

In the wording of a Bragg "Best Practices" recommendations -
    (too late to implement)

*A better idea might have been to publish the 230 page book at a FULL 330 PAGES and increase the print size from the tiny 4Pt. to an industry standard and reader friendly 10Pt. type.

Reading this with a magnfying glass in one hand, like Sherlock Holmes, is an awkward process. It's elementary my Dear Steven.

  1. I recently became Controller for a medium-sized construction company. I found the control activities listed in the book to be a good "mind-jogging" tool as I begin documentation of our internal controls within the accounting department.

  1. A remarkable book in getting anyone up to speed in the world of Accounts Payable. I found this book extremely, It gives valuable insights to both the begineer and the seasoned pro of AP

  2. A useful handbook for accounts payable professionals. A wide-visioned summary & comparison from accounts payable operations of many companies of various types. Describe things in very details. It will be better if the best practices are more focused to be articulated. Overall, this book would enable someone in this area to achieve a more systematic perception into accounts payable.

2 comments about Forensic Accounting and Fraud Investigation for Non-Experts.
  1. Howard Silverstone has performed well in describing clearly the major accounting cycles and the control points that need to be focused to reduce the possibility of fraud.

Interesting statistics on the characteristics of fraudsters are provided and methodologies used by forensic accountant and lawyers to build their case.

This book is great for non accounting professionals to have an insight on accounting environments but this book does not provide much value for experienced accounting professionals except if they were interested in how their counterpart in forensic accounting perform.

  2. No company can thrive without trusted employees, but some die because they trusted employees too much, allowing them to use their positions for illicit gain. The lesson: Trust but verify via accounting controls. Forensic Accounting and Fraud Investigation for Non-Experts offers an effective primer on how financial fraud occurs, demonstrating the critical need for accounting controls. More important, the book lays out the fundamentals of forensic accounting and the fraud investigation process.

The book is an easy read, organized into two sections. Part 1 provides an overview of forensic accounting, illustrating the prevalence of accounting fraud across sectors, and in companies of all sizes. The authors offer real-world examples of trusted employees who betrayed that trust. In many cases, their employers never recovered from the fraud these bad actors perpetrated. This section may leave the reader suspicious of everyone in his or her company's accounting department, which might not be a bad thing, at least initially.

Part 2 constitutes the bulk of the book, which details how to investigate accounting improprieties. All of the required steps are detailed, from the investigative process and interviewing of witnesses to documentation, analysis tools, and more.

Whether you are a senior executive, a middle manager, an investigator, or a small business owner, Forensic Accounting and Fraud Investigation for Non-Experts provides what you need to know to ensure that your organization is not brought to its knees by a criminal in the accounting department.

5 comments about Introduction to Managerial Accounting.
  1. This book is what I would call an o.k. textbook. It's not horribly hard to sit down & read or understand. On the other hand it's not light reading. There are some areas in later chapters that are not covered as well as I has hoped.

  2. I HATE that textbook publishers print out a new edition, with basicaly the same problems as the last edition (only the numbers change). However, to be fair, this is a very clear book, has good examples that follow the exercies in the book. Probably one of the better accounting books I have seen. Also has some chapters of introduction to finance. Overall would recommend.

  3. For this textbook I ordered it because it said that it was the paperback version, not the workbook version. I was given false information when ordering it because it gave me the opportunity to combine the paperback version with the workbook. Then they sent me two workbooks. I was tricked into buying the same book twice by semantics and a glitch in the system.

  4. Accounting can be a real boring topic but this book really helped make the concepts a bit more easy to understand and it really helped me through my college class.

  5. I cannot believe that anyone would send a book in a rice krispie treat box..no wonder it took so long to get ot me, you could hardly see my address. SO much for trying to order the book way ahead of time!
