5 comments about Integrated Cost and Schedule Control in Project Management.
  1. This book is hands-down most useful, clear, and light-weight treatment of the topic I ever owned. It imparts the essential project management fundamentals related to cost and schedule control in a language that is readable and easily internalized. The simple clear-cut analogies Ms. Kuehn employs supply handy "gut feel" mnemonic help for the techniques and the formulae. The book is at once a good tutorial for a novice and a handy concise reference for a pro.

  2. This book presents clear examples of the critical practices of project management. Ursula makes complex work breakdown structure (WBS) and scheduling techniques easy. Her experience as a practitioner and instructor shines through this work. If you want a dry, academic book...go elsewhere. This is a dynamic presentation of important cost and scheduling practices for those of us who really need to apply them on projects. There is no other book out there in its class.

    Rosemary Hossenlopp, MBA, PMP

  3. I have read many EVM books and find this one exceptionally well written, easy to follow, but not condescending. Ms Kuehns strikes the right balance between technical competence and telling a good story. Her examples are logical and based on realistic scenarios. I am using this text to prepare for the Earned Value Professional (EVP) certification, a 7.5 hour exam that tests one's knowledge of Earned Value and I am certain I will be prepared for the exam. More importantly, this book prepares me for real-life challenges I face on a daily basis with balancing the perfromance of tasks that make up my overly-ambitious project using the limited resources allocated to me.

  4. This book is appropriate for anyone from the novice to the experienced practitioner. I particularly recommend this book for Program Managers and executives who think Earned Value is too complex or too deep in the weeds for their interest. Ursula explains, using straightforward examples, that Earned Value Cost/Schedule Integration is just good project management that provides a common language for comparison across projects.
This book has earned a place in my EV tool chest!

  5. With a simple language, good and real-world examples, and exercises, this book makes simple subjects like WBS, cost/schedule planning and control, Earned Value Analysis, PERT, risks of estimates.

A very good and valuable source of knowledge / learning in Project Management.

  1. I truly enjoy this book and would recommend it to anyone in the profession or interested in becoming a part of it. While the book is very informative, including many facts and figures, it reads like one is having a session of "shop talk" with the author and telling war stories. I rarely have a hard time putting nonfiction down, but this book is truly a gem.

  1. This book is good about listing the objectives and showing you exactly where to find the answers for the multiple choice questions. For example: What is the purpose of a job cost sheet? The book highlights the area where the answer is. Easy huh? Well, what about the actual accounting problems? The detailed problems at the end of each chapter have NO SOLUTIONS to them, and you can't buy a solutions guide unless you are an instructor! I'm not an accounting wizard, so I have to actually practice before it sticks in my brain... imagine that. I guess they expect everyone to see the problems and read about the problems and automatically get it. They work out a "Demonstration Problem" for you, but that only applies to some of the problems at the end of each chapter.

  2. Jerry really knows how to help people learn accounting. Learning accounting is about practising but not reading. Reading helps but it won't solve problems. The one thing I really appreciate about this book is Jerry uses real life accounting practice within companies from different industries to illustrate every single chapter, within which all the accounting theories and principals naturally flow. You can see all the kinds of accounting problems with actual number and data being solved with the application of relevant accounting theories, principals and methods. You know how real things are done. I have read many accounting books, among which loads of books lack exercises for me to practice after I read certain chapter. But buying Jerry's book, you get two books, one for reading, and one for exams. Nearly half of the book is Exam Questions, which emulate my real exams quite well. I can't believe an accounting without good exercise questions is an book. If you seriously want to pass exams and know how the real accounting is done, this is the book for you!

  3. I bought this book for a Managerial accounting class. I found that chapters to be well written and the example easy to follow. Enron gets used a lot. What I didn't like was that problems in the back of the book are not as clear as they could be. Most of the time, I plug in the wrong formula. So that part could have been clearer. The answers are all on a CD, that access a website for the answers. So if you like me and still have dial-up, you may have a problem there too. However I am still pulling a B in the class, so I'm getting something.

  1. It's a good book, however, I was expecting to see the accouting flow just how I have saw it during my cost accounting experience. Credits to salary wages instead of a labor absortion account just like it workd in reality looks pretty far from reality.

  2. This is a well written book that provides comprehensive coverage of various aspects of managerial accounting. The author clearly and methodically covers the various topics pertaining to managerial accounting relevant to modern organizations.

The material in the book is well presented and the author gives several useful and helpful examples that reinforce the concepts and ideas presented in the book. I found the book to be very practical and easy to read and understand. The book is a useful and handy reference for managers working in various firms including service, retail, manufacturing and non-profit organisations. Among the subjects covered include activity-based costing, target costing, the value chain, customer profitability analysis, job-order costing, budgeting and performance evaluation.

The book is a valuable resource and guide for managers in various organizations and students doing an MBA, studying accounting or business studies at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

  1. When there have been so many changes in today's supply environment, this is an excellent reference when a quick review of supply chain or procurement process is needed! Very detailed but easy to read.
Jane Dillner, C.P.M., President Supply Dynamix

  2. Absolutely essential book for Procurement and Supply Management practitioners by the practitioners. This is a must read for everyone in my staff.

  3. No doubt about essentials for procurement, need more direct aproach to Europe's best practices.
    Good value for money.

  4. I purchased this book for an upcoming position I was looking to get. I wanted a book that explain in detail but to where a person who knew nothing about procurement could understand. This book went over the different tasks a procurement manager would face and shared different resources that could help with completed the tasks. I skipped a few sections because it didn't pertain to my specific position. Overall I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others.

  1. The material came very quickly and was exactly as described. Very Good.

  2. The book was very clean and no deterioration like a new book. The delivery was satisfied as I want.

  3. Reading the chapters do not help in solving the problems at the end of each chapter.

  1. This book is a great help and study guide which goes along well with the Text

  2. This book is a study guide with additional questions. While that information is helpful, I wanted the solutions manual for the problems in the associated Managerial Accounting book.

  3. Most study guides have ANSWERS for the problems that are in the TEXT, as well as additional material. This had completely different problems (with answers). So it didn't meet my expectations and I returned it. The publisher's website has a sample chapter from this study guide, which I found after I'd bought/returned this book. I advise looking at the sample chapter so you know what you're getting.

  4. The textbook was pretty good. I didn't refer to the workbook nearly as much as I thought I would need to.

  1. This book is not only informative to women, believe me. I picked up my wife's copy, more to see what she'd be doing to me after our next argument, and was totally unable to put it down. My wife was quite surprised to find me still reading it the next AM. I think the information MS. Barrett provides is applicable to all sorts of legal, or potentially tricky, legal situations, and NOT all are gender-related. Although I'm in a good marriage now, (I think), I wish I had known some of the tips she's offering TWO wives ago!

Sincerely, Ed Philhower, Los Angeles, CA.

  2. is Marilyn Barrett. She has so much valuable information to give, and she does it in such an easy way to understand.

Legalistics, to me, always had sort of a frightening tinge, because I thought I wouldn't be able to absorb everything, and therefore I'd get screwed somewhere. But Marilyn has made the most complicated problems easy, and then she gives you examples that are also simple to identify with -- so I was quite able to follow all her practical suggestions.

This book is for all women -- because all of us will find ourselves in at least one of the situations in her book before too long. I'm a small business owner, plus married for a second time, plus I took care of my mother during a long-term illness until she died recently. Marilyn's book brings up all of these aspects of living, offers solutions to problems I didn't even know I'd encounter, and is a book I'll keep on my shelf as a reference every time I have a legal-type question.

Thanks for writing it, it was great. Jennie

  3. This is a great book! Being a young, modern and relatively "hip" married woman (one who now co-ownes a business with her husband), I decided it was time to educate myself about all the legal stuff I'd been ignoring for years. I was especially intrigued by the author's approach to the legal aspects of marriage/children, property and taxes. These were topics I would not typically view in a "legal" light (hey, my husband handles the legal stuff), and I would certainly never have considered myself at legal risk. Reading this book really opened my eyes about where I stand as far as the law is concerned - Whaddyaknow, I'm considered a responsible, accountable adult! While this may seem like a no-brainer, the stories and information in this book really brought it home that I had better step up and take responsibility for myself. Thanks to this book I now have a clear understanding of the potential legal and financial hazards to which I may be exposed, and I also have the tools to avoid those dangers and make sound decisions that will protect my family from legal and/or financial peril. This is a truly informative and helpful book.

  4. Here is a book which should be a trusted partner when you have to make decisions which affect your life and security. This book gives you the tools necessary to step back and analyze the pros and cons of situations with much more than the usual emotionally-based outlook. Throughout her book, Marilyn Barrett stresses the joy of taking care of yourself will be worth the extra effort in the beginning of any new venture, be it in business or relationship.

  5. A family (divorce) mediator, I encounter many women who are painfully unprepared for the range and scope of divorce. This book is an excellent prep course and/or wake up call. It goes on my "recommended reading" list.
