1 comments about The Classical Economists: Beginning a New World of Economic Insight (Great Economic Thinkers Series).
  1. Great study material, a must read that should be taught in high school. The "Wealth of Nations" is a difficult read and these Audio CD's are priceless.
Buy this if you support free trade, less government, and the American dream. Beware, this books represents everything a liberal opposes, ideals which are deeply hated by those who support liberal gods like Barak Hussein Obama and Miss H. Rodham.

1 comments about Karl Marx: Das Kapital: From Capitalist Exploitation to Communist Revolution (Great Economic Thinkers Series).
  1. Karl Marx was a visionary futurist, and a decent economist. His work can be compared to that of Darwin, but from the limited perspective of human economics. His work was political, and limited by the perspective that his era provided. He was overly certain about many things on scant evidence, but many of his insights were spot on. His popular slogan, "from each...to each" may yet hold sway, as robots replace toil as the measure of human value.

This treatment was professional, un-ethical, heavy handed and rather sad. It was as objective as a toddler explaining why he hit his sister. This was my first book on Marx, and I feel that the writers bias and filtering of ideas was so clumsy, that any knowledge that I gained was nearly coincidental.

2 comments about Frank Knight and the Chicago School: The Role of Economic Uncertainty (Great Economic Thinkers).
  1. I have the whole "Great Economic Thinkers" set on audio cassette. I found the material quite interesting and the presentation excellent. These presentations are more than just a book turned to audio media. Even if you have a fairly short commute, you can get through this material in a week.

The Chicago School is towards the end of the series. You may want to start with Adam Smith and work your way forward.

  2. I have many of the audiobooks on economics. This is by far my most favorite. I have listened to it three times over the last few months. Very entertaining listening to Knight's views on people with his sarcastic comments thrown in. This is a biography and does not go into his theories.

1 comments about Louis Rukeyser's Book of Lists: The Best, the Worst and the Funniest from the Worlds of Business, Finance and Politics.
  1. Some amusing stuff, marred by contributor William E. Simon's neanderthal offerings, e.g., "multiculturalism" as one of the "Most Destructive Ideas in Public Life" along with "No-fault divorce" and "The welfare state," etc. His list of "God's Greatest Gifts to Mankind" includes Jesus Christ, heaven, the USA and the Bible, no kidding.

Initially I thought that Rukeyser had lost a few I.Q. points, but then I realized that he did include "the worst" in the title. Sometimes the way to really embarrass people is to just quote them.
