3 comments about Beyond Wall Street - The Art of Investing (4-Video Set).
  1. As a financial professional, those videos are big disappointment to me. It didn¡¯t offer any insightful ideas, but instead that contents offered in the videos are comment knowledge in term finance. I wouldn¡¯t recommend this video to anyone who has finance background.

  2. While this series does contain some informative interviews with some very interesting people (Foster Friess, John Neff, Peter Bernstein, and others), the whole thing feels like a late night infomercial. The hosts Andrew Tobias and Jane Bryant Quinn are annoying, and frankly come across as morons. In one episode, we learn that 80% of mutual funds don't beat the market average, (any Motley Fool knows that) yet Jane tells us later she is a mutual fund investor. Then Andrew quips that she's really investing her husbands money. In another episode we learn that bonds can be as risky (or riskier) than stocks, and that it's a myth that they are safer than stocks. Later our hosts advise us that we should diversify into bonds to lower our risk. The hosts don't cut through the confusion to make concepts easier to understand, they add to the chaos and come across as confused themselves. As for the series usefulness, it's not a bad introduction to general investment concepts but certainly won't give you many new insights, or teach you how to invest. It's just a very general overview of different types of investing strategies, and a shallow introduction to various concepts (how bonds work, emerging markets, black box investing) Unfortunatley, it doesn't really teach you much "art" at all, and doesn't match up to the usual PBS quality I've come to expect. If you've already done your homework on investment terminology and basics, you may find some parts useful. Seasoned investors may enjoy seeing interviews with the superstars of the financial world that you normally only read about. For the new investor, start somewhere else.

  3. I disagree with the viewer who wrote that Jane and I are morons, but do agree with him that, at least for most people interested in investing, this is 8 hours worth watching (I found the investors we interviewed fascinating) but not ordinarily worth spending a hundred bucks to own.

5 comments about Feathers for Felines, Episode 1: Videos/cat toys for cats.
  1. My cat Mitsou absolutely loves this video! She stops whatever she is doing when I put it on, and all her attention is on the TV - and the space around the TV when the birds fly off-screen! She goes into her "cat attack" position, and her squeaky cat-attack voice takes over. Unlike the negative reviewer, I don't turn up the volume - it's not required, and the sound is just fine. Mitsou's favourites are the squawking Blue Jays..she literally twitches all over when they are on. I counted at least 14 different types of birds, and saw no duplicate video shots at all. There are hundreds of clips edited into this one-hour video. Obviously a lot of time and effort went into producing this product. Congratulations! (Was that your competitor who submitted that other ill-mannered review?)

  2. I'd bought tons and tons of toys for my two cats. Everything from springs, blinking balls, mice, animated mice, spinners, string, and other stuff. We even bought a kids pop-up tunnel (which they enjoy I might add). But nothing compares to this video and the other feathers for felines videos. They absoultely love them, we put them on everyday and they always watch them. A must have for all house cats!

  3. As a multiple cat-owner (3 of 'em!) I am very, very happy with these videos. I first bought Episode 1, and Kelly (the youngest) fixated on the TV immediately, then started looking behind the TV for the birds! Then Wille joined in, but he was determined to "catch" the butterflies (from the Special Edition tape) by batting at the screen - just like the cats in the web site pictures! I have also bought some as Christmas gifts for my friends - all in all, a great product, and nicely video-taped with lots of different birds. Thank you so much from Kelly, Willie and Smoke!

  4. While ALL cats are not motivated by Bill Hayward's films, our group gives it a good 75% interest rating. We have the unusual advantage of being able to observe a large number of felines in an open, societal setting and, admittedly, started out with a couple sitcom watchers and tennis fans. Remember- these flicks are not editted with human cinematographic expectations in mind; they might seem to jump around to us- but the cats love them. Introduce the videos to your animals by simply running the tape- with no expectations- soon you'll see the cat(s) peeking out around a corner, ears perked with interest. Different cats also seem to prefer different scenes/birds/animals. I started with this edition and found Kitty Safari (which I purchased at the same time) to be not only shorter, but somehow lacking. Now that we have all Bill's "editions", it is "expected" that I'll pop in kitty tapes in both TV's when I'm leaving for work. I'm even going to have to hook up another TV for the isolation ward! Great a-mews-ment for your pets- and super gifts for the cataholic (we ALL have one!) in your life. >^..^< PAWS UP!!!

  5. Does what it is supposed to do. Entertain, tease, and fascinate cats for an hour! I wish they would identify the birds with "subtitles" so the humans could learn something, too.

1 comments about Charles J. Givens Financial Video Library (4 VHS tapes).
  1. I enjoyed reading the books and the video series is basically a rehash of "Weath Without Risk" and "Financial Self Defense". If you enjoy his books, the tapes are ok, as you can tell he is reading off of a teleprompter and was not a very dynamic speaker. In any case the content he presents is very interesting and informative and if you hate reading, it is an alternative way to learn his strategies. Personally, I liked the books better, but for the bargain price I paid the tapes were worth it.

1 comments about Micro Trading Tactics.
  1. Unlike Swing Traders, who often hold positions for 2-5 days, astute Micro Traders jump on breakouts -- as well as breakdowns -- moving in and out of positions quickly each market day. They often find opportunity in 5 or 15-minute charts, taking frequent, bite-sized profits out of the market on a daily basis. This technique can be immensely rewarding -- but it takes skill and training to survive such rapid-fire moves. I think this is the best video if you want to daytrade.

1 comments about The Standard Deviants - Finance, Parts 1, 2 & 3.
  1. Standard Deviants has come up with an idea that really changes learning. I first came across their Spanish Language Series and was hooked. They seem to take the approach that 99.99% of learning is being able to get through the enire program and pay attention. Their rare mix of comedy with some of the most mundane material has really helped me to learn things I probably never would have attempted.

Just a note, they always emphasize that these tapes should be used in a class, but personally I don't think I would ever find a college class nearly as interesting and fun as these tapes. But I am a graphic designer, and you know how we are. ...
