5 comments about Foreclosure Investing For Dummies CD (For Dummies (Business & Personal Finance)).
  1. Great book. This is the time to read this. It saved me $1000.00's before I wasted money on an informational product.

  2. Par for Dummies series -- very informative, useful, clear and easy to read. Lays out upside potential as well as downside risks. As an adjunct, I've been using a beta service at realquest dot com which lets me search for pre-foreclosure, foreclosured and bank-owned homes in my local area. Perfect combo.

  3. this book is very easy to read. it gives you step by step info on all apects of investing.

  4. This book has been very helpful to my husband and myself. We are just getting started with this and the book is simple, easy to understand, and very informative. I would recommend this to anyone who is serious about wanting to learn, and having it explained to them in detail.

    Thanks, Ann

  5. Excellent information, too bad the market is the way it is and people are losing their homes. The author is concise and accurate and anyone that has money to invest would do well to review this information before putting their money out there. The author makes it fun and interesting while making sure you have all you need to avoid the pitfalls; especially in today's market.

5 comments about Today Matters: 12 Daily Practices to Guarantee Tomorrow's Success.
  1. The key concepts in this book for me were the following:
Settle critical issues once and for all - Then you will not have to revisit them daily. John Maxwell talks about how the earlier you settle the critical issues in your life the greater the potential for your success. Thus by avoiding procrastination on these key choices, you will no longer feel the guilty feelings associated with them.

The concept that the "pain" of discipline is
"momentary" but the benefit of it is long lasting (lasting the ENTIRE day - 16 hours of the day)was a revelation for me.

The funniest part was the morning prayer he included:
"Dear Lord - So far today I am doing alright,
I have not gossiped, lost my temper, been greedy, grumpy, nasty, selfish or self indulgent.
I have not whined, cursed or eaten any chocolate - however,
I am going to get out of bed in a few minutes and I will need a lot more help after that."

I highly recommend this CD. I find myself listening to it again and again, stopping it and jotting notes down.

Finally, I really found the values section in the 12th daily dozen to be unique and original. I haven't found anything like it in ANY other book of it's kind
    This CD is a BUY

  2. Wonderful book that really helps you focus on what is important. A must read for everyone.

  3. This audio book is really great! Every one needs to read books of this kind time to time but this one is realistic and very empowering.

  4. While the content is excellent, the audio CD's are identical to the "Make Today Count" audio book by the same author. It is, in my opinion, deceptive to market the same product with two different titles.

  5. Wow with the busieness of life and all we tend to do this really makes you REALLY put your prioities in order and start working on JUST today and what really matters. I have recommended this to a few of my friends.... Loved it

5 comments about Jim Cramer's Stay Mad for Life: Get Rich, Stay Rich (Make Your Kids Even Richer).
  1. Wow Great book!!! Learning a lot about investing and managing money. Newly retired and happy to have time to read this interesting book. It's got lot's of good advise and it's easy to understand. Good investing is like many things in life. You have to do the homework Pete

  2. Good and informative book . It could have been written in a better structured way . Overall I would recomend it .

  3. This guy is nothing short of a genius in my opinion, I've purchased all of his books I'm pretty sure and have NEVER been dis-appointed with them. He's a 5 STAR AUTHOR all the way.

  4. As someone relatively new to the trading, I bought his other books a few years ago. Except for his first book, waste on money IMO. Cramer's first book gives you a true inside to how he is... ruthless dirty tactics, do anything to make money. A better insight to trading on Wallstreet. Now, his books are all the same. Like CNBC, only report happy news regardless if reality is really really bad, like now. BUY BUY BUY, when market is bleeding lower lower lower. His trade recommendation are good for bull markets. But if you follow his trade recommendation in a bear market, you will go broke. No joke. Luckily for me, I stopped watching his show and stopped buying his books after the bull market was over in 07.

If you don't believe me, paper trade his recommendation and see how much money you can lose in this horrible bear market. You can get more trade information and recommendations from stock blogs and websites... and it's free. If you want to make money in a bear market, get ideas from a bear or someone neutral not a permabull like Cramer.

  5. Jim Cramer's latest book is an excellent departure from his previous two investment books. His first two books were focused on the individual stock trader. While I enjoyed those books and highly recommend them, his latest book provides invaluable information that must be passed on to the young investor.

If you are trying to make a tough choice on what one investment book to give to a person looking to get themselves to retirement eventually and to save and make money all along the way, then this is your book. His simple advice to budget plan and which retirement routes are best for different ages puts this book over the top. If you are a parent buying this book then make sure your kid reads it too.

The more we can pass Jim Cramer's long term advice to young people the better off their lives will be. Buy this book for you or as a gift and you won't be disappointed.

5 comments about Mastering the Rockefeller Habits: What You Must Do to Increase the Value of Your Fast-Growth Firm.
  1. I must say that the simpler management frameworks are the ones that stick with me. This book puts forth a few key management principles that are helpful for most companies.

  2. Bring organization to your organization. Hold people accountable for their work. These are some of the biggest problems I hear over and over from entrepreneurs who have emerged from the start-up phase and are trying to grow their business into a profitable machine. This book is an easy read and gives you all the tools you need. A must have for anyone looking to take their business beyond their garages.

  3. As a university instructor and entrepreneur, I wholeheartedly recommend this book. The one page strategic plan is brilliant and very doable by anyone in just a few hours time. Simple and straightforward - that's what this book teaches and that's what you should do to succeed....so Read this one for sure.

  4. I would love to review this book for you. However, I have still not received it even though I have been charged for it! Can you please help me either get my book or get a credit to my credit card? Thank you!

  5. Every year it's the same thing... some new book which exists mainly to generate more income for those that already have entirely more than their share. This book and others like it have no real purpose or impact. Imagine... establishing short and long-term goals! Brilliant. But wait... they're not CALLED "goals." They're called "Rocks." And there's the "genius" of this publication. Attempting to teach book-smart executives common sense and how to get even MORE out of the "little people" so they can make even MORE money. Ha ha ha. On the backs of the workers... don't bother with this book. It's a joke. Here's the synopsis... make short and long-term goals, inform the entire firm OF these goals, have the entire FIRM make goals that are ALSO known to all. The End. Oh, but wait here's the true gem... schedule your incessant meetings... oh excuse me... "huddles" at times that AREN'T on the quarter hour. THAT way people will show up on time (e.g., 4:17pm, not 4:15pm). HA HA HA HA HA. BRILLIANT! Save your money...

  2. I was impressed by the content of Learn To Earn and I would buy other CD's of a similar nature.

5 comments about Rich Dad's Advisors: Guide to Investing In Gold and Silver: Everything You Need to Know to Profit from Precious Metals Now (Rich Dad's Advisors).
  1. Although I have not yet read the entire book, there's one thing that EVERYONE is missing.
All the gold bugs can rush and buy, but the problem is, if there's an economic meltdown, gold and silver will be illegal!
This allows the government and feds to "buy" low, and sell high.
In the great depression, it was illegal to carry gold and silver.

Although there are not yet ANY laws prohibiting gold or silver, it is still not safe!

    The reason?
I have heard that the Patriot Act (or as I call it unpatriotic act), has a section where it makes it LEGAL for federal officials and government to go into your house, take any gold and silver they want, as well as any currency they want, without even doing so much as asking or notifying you. (You may want to google it or read the bill for yourself at congress.gov, or whatever website)

    So what's the REAL solution?
I like the idea of buying diamonds. Not only are they safe from this law (as far as I know), but if you want to HIDE them, it's easy to do so, and they're not easy to detect.
As a last resort, you can hide them in your mouth, or under your tounge, and if they ask you to open up your mouth and look under your toungue, you can swallow it...
Of course, it won't be a very pretty dimond on the way out!

Diamonds can cut through anything, even gold and silver, (or steel bars, if you're really paranoid that martial law is coming, and you want to plan an escape).
I still think there is value in gold and silver, and this book is still excellent so far, and will be useful in deciding how to buy gold and silver, and understanding why currency is designed to lose value, except for period in which they contract the money supply and seize assets.

Although diversification is not something the rich do, in this case, I think you need to make an exception, unless you can somehow protect that gold&silver from the Patriot act, perhaps through a corperate entity. Or something.

  2. Mike Maloney's book is an easy read & proves his point about investing in silver & gold. An essential read for improving your Financial literacy in the 21st century.

  3. This book caught my eye prior to boarding a plane. I suppose it was launched at a time when gold and silver were making record highs and these precious metals seemed extremely attractive to the everyday investor.

I found the initial history lesson interesting but a little drawn out.

I have read most of Kiyosaki and his advisor books and after a while they all seem to sound the same. This one was more interesting but Maloney obviously felt obliged to laud Kiyosaki's other books as totally amazing and the best books he has read. I find this difficult to believe. He is a learned gent and has read many quality books on The Fed etc. so I found this a bit irritating.

I read this book after the financial crisis had already unfolded but Maloney predicted it (or something similar) with eery truth around pg. 112. In a nutshell the book says that the only true currency is gold and silver and the cash (the dollar) is just a fiat currency, in the more can be printed. In times of distress people flock to precious metals and these prices go crazy. That hasn't quite happened during this crisis so it's not that simple. I flew through this book and it is easy reading but I finished it feeling less convinced than many other readers here. The great website reference at the back pushes it up to four stars though.

  4. I have read several of the "Rich Dad Poor Dad" books, and have been enlighten with the information that was provided, and it has helped me personally deal with my financial issues. Plus, seeing my future is very different after reading these books.

  5. I purchased this book to learn about investing in gold and silver. What I got was a whole lot more. This fast read gives great insights into how our economy is no more secure than a house of cards. The author demonstrates where our economy is headed and how we can gain wealth rather than endure looming financial disaster. Oh yes, the book tells you about the different ways to purchase and hold precious metals. He also discusses the benefits and pitfalls of each method. If you are looking for a technical summary of exactly how to do it, this isn't the book for you. It is, however, a real wake-up call for America. I'm purchasing several copies for my family, friends and business assoicates.

1 comments about The ABC's of Real Estate Investing (Paperback) & How to Find and Keep Good Tenants (Audio CD - 2006) (Rich Dad).
  1. No doubt Ken has made a killing marketing his expertise through book sales and seminars. But don't get it twisted. Ken's expertise is real, hard-won, and proven. Be careful who you get your investing advice from. A property manager may be the most important person on your team - and that's Ken!

He does not suggest that real estate investing is an easy way to make millions by only working 1 hour a week, with one hand tied behind your back - as so many real estate "gurus" suggest. It aint a gripping, emotional appeal to lead millions to become real estate investors like an alter call at church.

It's a textbook, of sorts. I have successfully incorporated his conservative, methodical approach to my due diligence process for acquiring investments.

Think about it: The marketers who made millions selling 'no money down' and 'weekend millionaire' how-to books are now selling how-to make millions buying foreclosures (From the poor, would-be investors who bought their first books, over-leveraged themselves, and now contribute to the flood of foreclosures on the market! Hmmmmm.).

5 comments about The Lies About Money: Achieving Financial Security and True Wealth by Avoiding the Lies Others Tell Us-- And the Lies We Tell Ourselves.
  1. OK, after getting to about page 40 I realized that this was an advertisement of his company. Basically, he says to buy every possible stock and go long-term. About 4x10^2 times, he was saying that "his" company was doing just that. Didn't find anything useful, except that you spend more when you retire (never knew that one!). The book's name is really great - it captures attention.

  2. This book led me to a major change in my retirement investment strategy.

I had already rolled my various 401(k) plans into IRAs. I had a mix of index mutual funds and individual stocks. But reading this book crystallized for me what the problems were with that.

Although it is true he makes a big pitch for institutional mutual funds, which you can only get from a company like his, he does say you can "do it yourself" with ETFs.

For me it was not a big deal to go to his website for a more tailored asset allocation -- which was free by the way. Then I did some research to map those asset classes to specific ETFs.

The biggest benefit is that I no longer have to agonize about if I am in the right stock or if I should get out of a stock and what should I replace it with. With the market down so much lately, I am able to keep on track and not sell based on fear. All I have to do is apply a constant ratio approach to re-balancing and that's it.

I have done this for the last 3 1/2 months and I am barely down (< 1%) compared to the S&P 500 down 10%. So far so good. Using his approach, you can see the rotation in and out of different asset classes and not worry -- you are in all of them!

As for the sales pitch, I could imagine someone not having the time and inclination to do their own investments and they would benefit from his company's services.

  3. This book is largely self-serving. The author shows how hard it is for ordinary people to invest wisely, so that they need investment advisors like him.

His advice to have a wide diversity of investments is contrary to Warren Buffet's technique: own a small amount of investments and study them carefully.

  4. Though maybe a tad longer than it could have been, Ric Edelman does a good job of discussing the perils of mutual funds and what to look out for when investing. He makes occasional arguments for hiring financial advisers, but always states that he is not trying to make a case for hiring him. His sections are short, simple, easy to read and provide a relatively straightforward explanation of the topics. There's a whole theory section on assessing risk that was probably unnecessary, but he warns readers that they are free to skip it. There's an enormous section that is simply a day-by-day timeline of mutual fund scandals that is incredibly tedious and makes its point three pages in (so the other 20 or so are just a waste of paper). Pick it up and read it on a plane, you'll finish quickly and have learned a thing or two.

  5. I am writing this review because, the review I wrote preceding this one (The Little Book of Bull Moves in Bear Markets - Peter Schiff) was overwhelmingly bleak in context.
Mr. Edelman offers hope to us all. Start big or small, but start. Invest for the long-run. Don't jump in and out of the market (timing doesn't work). And [Spoiler Alert!] the big secret to pile up good returns over time is to: 1) minimize portfolio costs, i.e. management fees, and 2) utilize ETFs rather than mutual funds.
A fun segment of the book includes the mutual fund scandal timeline where you get a thumbnail sketch of those shenanigans.

5 comments about Women & Money: Owning the Power to Control Your Destiny.
  1. If you are a woman, you need Suze Orman's 'Women & Money.' It is a must in order to gain knowledge about your finances, so you will not have to rely on someone else or pay a huge fee for attorneys or financial assistants. Great - great product.

  2. Suze Orman provides an excellent perspective on women and power/money. Very useful information with interactive website. Nice.

  3. This is an excellent book that I would recommend to any woman who wants to gain organization and control over her financial situation. The book is written is an easy to understand format. It clearly explains what actions need to be taken each month, for five months, to create order surrounding your finances. Buy this book, get out your highlighter, mark the steps you are going to take, and check them off as completed.

  4. I never imagined in a million years I would pick up a book on personal
finance. I had an idea that investments and numbers were just too hard,
something I'd never understand. Reading Suze Orman's "Women & Money"
turned that notion on its head. Her warm, funny and no-nonsense book is
not only informative and empowering, it is also really enjoyable to
read. While she offers plenty of detailed and helpful financial advice,
the underlying theme throughout -and what really impacted me- is that
control of your financial destiny begins with you. How you treat your
money is an extension of how you treat yourself. Her 'Save Yourself
Plan' is about letting go of the old excuses that say 'I can't' and
letting go of the shame and blame of past decisions; it's about
empowering yourself with knowledge and starting fresh from exactly where
    you are in this moment.

A wonderful companion book to Ms. Orman's that expands on these
ideas is Ariel and Shya Kane's Working on Yourself Doesn't Work: The 3 Simple Ideas That Will Instantaneously Transform Your Life. Their inspiring approach to
living in the moment (instead of in a continuous loop of worry about
the past and the future) gives you the tools to dissolve those old,
limiting stories about yourself ("I'm not good with numbers!") and step
into a life that is easy, alive, and full of possibility.

  5. I love Suze Orman and as a 26 year old woman I was more that excited about learning how to control my own destiny by learning all I could about my money. The problem....I would like to enjoy it before I retire. Suze should change all the names of her books to. " Suffer now, Retire rich part 1, 2, 3 and 4" because that's the philosphy of her books. I am more interested in learning techniques that can produce results in 3-5 years. 35 years is too long to reap the harvest. This book has it's place but it didn't help me much.

  1. I listened to the CD everywhere I go. It reinforces me to check for fundamentals before buying stocks. It provides specific instructions on what to look for and not speculate. I had bought stocks in the past and did not know company's financial background. Now I will check my current stocks and see if I made the right choice.

The disadvantage of the CD: The author provided a lot of websites and it would be advantangeous to get the book.

  2. This is a well written book and worth reading for anyone who is just starting to invest. I think the advice given in this book is very good. It will help you develope a plan for making your money grow. READ THIS BOOK!
