5 comments about Think and Grow Rich: Original Version.
- This "book on tape" is in Mp3 format. You need a CD Player or CD Boombox that will play Mp3 CD's. The best one is made by Sony. As for the book itself, it's worth "reading" or "listening to" in any formt. If you want to know about my favorite Mp3 players either email me or look at the rest of my reviews. Email:boland7214@aol.
- This is such a classic. Definately something people should read over and over again. Getting it on mp3 is the best because you can listen to it in the car etc instead of all the normal radio garb that doesn't help you.
- This is a great book.
The mp3 download is also available:

Think And Grow Rich Mp3 Audiobook
Highly recommended!
- I've heard a lot of motivational, educational, and financial audiobooks in my day, and while this one is a classic, I was disenchanted by the readers style of delivery. The readers monotone energy becomes tiring after an hour of listening. And he pronounces 'Socrates' (the philosopher)...like the guy on Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. You know, 'SocrATES'.
The material seems to be centered around the want for money, money, money without much focus on WHY you want the money for yourself....like a blind faith that acquiring money is the end all be all.
- After finishing listening the "Think and Grow Rich" MP3s I have suddenly realized that this simple slogan is the single way of life in a capitalist society. In this book, as the only way of getting rich, the author advocates goal-directed way of life, purposefulness, constant self-perfection, courage, the skill to think and to act, and the other similar traits of character.
Many people came to a conclusion that the wealth, in some extent, depends on a level of education, motivation, self-esteem, and so on. The problem is that not all the people in equal extend incline to the education, to their self-improvement. This is because of the differences of their needs, habits, abilities, capabilities, and so on. Leo Tolstoy in his novel "Resurrection" arose a question of how to improve the level of education within a society: from inside of each individual or from outside? Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Should first the level of education of each and every individual be risen which yields a revolution (dialectic transition of quantity into quality) or the revolution should make the environment to foster the education of every individual?
The traits advocated by Napoleon Hill correspond to the first Leo Tolstoy's way of improving society. If each and every individual will improve, the society will automatically improve. The second way of Leo Tolstoy (create the environment which will foster the education of every individual) is contrary to Napoleon Hill's ideas: "if something is got for free or without big effort, it won't be appreciated, won't be handled with care or you won't trust it". Free education and medical care won't be respected properly by people, regardless how good this education and medical care are. That's why the socialist society will develop slower than capitalist. Marxists knew this and have built the concept of World revolution (to overthrow of capitalism in all countries), and a further idea by Trotsky that it was impossible to build socialism in a single country. Trotsky wrote that the socialist economy is not as efficient as capitalist and without the World revolution the USSR won't be able to overcome its economic underperformance.
Napoleon Hill praises the freedom and opportunities of the capitalist society of the U.S. in particular, which gives, according to Napoleon Hill, boundless opportunities for an individual who is able to think and grow rich.
I also recommend "The Road to Serfdom" by F. A. Hayek in addition to this book. Although "Think and Grow Rich" is a classical self-help book for a general reader while "The Road to Serfdom" is mostly academic, I think that both of them should be read.

5 comments about Seven Years to Seven Figures: The Fast-Track Plan to Becoming a Millionaire.
- More of a mathmatical evaluation of how your investments need to do to become a millionaire. Not enough concrete information. This is the first few chapters...the rest is all about people who havedone it successfully - all of which are workaholics who give up a lot. Pointing that there is a high price to pay.
Good for them, not for me.
- I found this to be a book with very generic, run of the mill, get rich quick advice with very few practical tips. Personally, I prefer books that are more research oriented and fact based rather than just motivational hype and fluff as this one was.
I was sorry I spent the money on this book and sold it at a local used book store right after reading throught it. Instead of this book I would recommend reading The Millionaire Next Door, The Millionaire Mind, Millionaire Women Next Door, Getting Rich in America, and Eight Steps to Seven Figures.
- One of the differences you will find in this book that is not typical of other success books, is it is not a Get Rich Quick book. It is more of a philosophical mindset approach to the topic, and a desire to show you that getting to seven figures is doable.
You are given a high level grounding, and then introduced to several case studies of people who have taken various paths to their seven figures. These vary from real estate, to supplement sales, to copywriting.
If you are looking for a feel-good approach then you may want to look elsewhere. If on the other hand you are looking for something to motivate you to buckle down and get going before another seven years passes you by, then you should consider reading this book.
Cheers!
- I have read the book. Let's get that out of the way first.
It's full of ideas and fluff, but really no substance. Get the boss to give you equity in the company by being a really hard worker. Calculate how much you'll need to live the lifestyle you want. Save up to 50% of your gross income. Invest in business ventures, stocks, and real estate.
That's it. There are 8 case studies about what other's have done, but there's no MEAT only fluff.
There's also more than just a little bragging and it really turns me off.
I have better things to do with my time. Thumbs down.
- I bought this with a sense of excitement. One of the previous reviewers noted that the only person capable of generating seven figures in seven years is the author. Too true and this book is just a load of fluff - and it will be the last Masterson book I will ever buy! Read on to discover why!
The one thing I found stimulating/original is his descriptor of what it would be like to have an income of one million dollars per annum, 2.5 million, 5.5 million, etc. This provided some nice material for budgeting fantasies.
Michael Masterson blows all his cover in first three paragraphs of his Acknowledgments. We all expect to benefit from Masterson's personal insights, his pet strategies and a thrilling adventure on how basically anyone can make literally millions quickly. Sadly he was so busy marketing himself that he left the real work to all his side-kicks. "I want to thank SR, an extremely bright and capable young woman who worked as my assistant on this book. S did a good deal of the research and all of the interviews" (quoted from Acknowledgements page v). Seeing as about 90% of the book consists of interviews, it would be more morally competent to accredit SR as the author, though this bright young spark is not mentioned on the cover. This leaves us with 17 pages of masterful marketing by his nibs and a final marketing wrap up by his nibs again, a mere 10 pages.
Masterson finds space to plug his e-zine Early to Rise (which is better than the book) regularly. In fact he also lavishes praise on his editorial director, CB, who helped him "identify which of the many ideas I wrote down were important and worth keeping" (page v).
His trusted editor trimmed and polished the lot (also page v). In the end one wonders whether Masterson spent more than a few hours tossing out this 'best seller' which has doubtlessly helped 'millions worldwide to achieve untold wealth' bla bla (you know the hype).
The real insult to readers emerged when I had the misfortune to read Masterson's response to an enthusiastic reader query in the above-mentioned e-zine. The reader wanted to know what guru Masterson's current goals were. Watch out folks - he is currently writing six more books - wait for it - SIMULTANEOUSLY. Sounds impressive doesn't it. Now that I have uncovered his recipe, i.e. delegate everything, the goal becomes easily attainable.
This is one book I won't even recycle back to Amazon.
Buyer beware.

3 comments about The New Buffettology: How Warren Buffett Got and Stayed Rich in Markets Like This and How You Can Too!.
- This book tries to reverse-engineer Warren Buffett's investment strategy and does a horrible job of it. Like all of Mary Buffett's books, this is long on hype and short on credibility.
For about the same price, you can buy the Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham, a book that Warren Buffett personally recommends reading.
- This is great book on investing and I highly recommend it. The CD is great to listen to in the car and gets all the points across. I suggest that you also get the book. It's way better than the Graham books - which are very dated - they give you the tools to buy stocks selling at below book value - not a lot of those around any more. Besides Buffett got over Graham years ago.
- Many books have been written about Warren Buffet's way of picking the right stocks at the right time, and many audio programs have been recorderd, but this one is the most sound, concise and actionable. There is another book on this subject: "The Warren Buffet Way" by Robert G. Hagstrom, but it misses the important topics laid out in the "Buffettology". These major topics are: what are the differences between a "consumer monopoly" and a "commodity"; how to calculate the rate of return over a long period of time before choosing the investment; and so on. There is another great book about Warren Buffet and his investment strategy - "Buffet: The Making of an American Capitalist" by Roger Lowenstein, but it better describes Mr. Buffet's biography and his relations with family, friends and the society, rather than how did he evaluate the companies. But please note that "Buffettology" is not a replacement of the book by Roger Lowenstein, I highly recommend both of them, but get the printed book Roger Lowenstein, not an audio version. The autio version of Roger Lowenstein masterpies is severely abridged and strips all the important details. What you can omit is the book by Robert G. Hagstrom, above mentioned.
I would recommend this abridged audio version of the "Buffettology" instead of the printed book. The audio version discloses the most important factors of Mr. Buffet's investment principles pretty well. Some of the background information is available on free letters to shareholders and Mr. Buffet's lectures, but you might not want to crawl thought all these; you might want to save time and just listen the "Buffettology" audio or read the "Buffettology" book, where all this information is perfectly summarized and laid out in a consistent way.

5 comments about How To Spot A Liar.
- This book is full of insightful and useful information that even the everyday person can incorporate into their lives. It taught me what to look for when speaking to a person and has already been helpful with my business colleagues. Thanks for the info!
- i think it is good book to start and to where to look but he was fast in explaining some ideas and instead he refered you to other books to read if you want to have some more. moreover he did not tell you how to make use of them instead he made to you to discover it.
- This is very dry reading. I don't know if I will even finish reading it. I wanted it to be able to work with the public and know when I was being lied to.
- Wow!!! This is the best book in the world!!! Read this and you can reek revenge on all the liars of the world by pointing them out! What can I say?! I am telling a lie! Mr. Hartley and Ms. Karinch's book is interesting but I wanted something more. One thing I found helpful was one can get to the truth by moving the person out of their "Cognitive" or more developed mind to their more primative minds through questioning and making them nervous. In short, the person is moved through various methods from their more cognitive to the mammal and lizard brains. When this is done it is much easier to see the truth. The section on NLP is not very helpful. You would have to accept i.e. believe in new age or non scientific methods for this section to be of help. Just be warned that NLP is not recognized universally as being a valid form of interpreting truth or lies. I also am left with the feeling that Mr. Hartley's methods work when used by military personal in a intimadating setting but are highly questionable when used in the daily grind/work world. Try using some of these techniques in the real world and unless you really know what you are doing, well, to be honest, people will get pretty pissed off at you! One might also be threatened with law suits or be informed by your boss or local power at be that various written compliants to various authorities have been filed with your name on them! In short, this book raises questions that may move a person to look further into the subject of liar identification. Or...they may simply toss it on their bed stand or desk and say to themselves, "Gee, I wished I bought that book on Bass fishing instead!"
- The contents of this book didn't reflect the title. If you want to learn to interrogate someone, then this book would be for you. If you want to develop skills is spotting liars, look somewhere else.
