  1. Great way to learn a "dry" subject and a great way to keep from falling asleep while watching a learning video about such a subject.

  1. Informative and witty, it's narration keeps the viewer captured throughout the program. Fun to watch and conveys the message. Definitely not a sleeper!

  2. Fast-paced, commonsense, uncomplicated guide to organizing the way you should think about and act with your investment dollars. This is a great introduction to the world of personal finance for young adults and the not so young. I wish I had it 10 years ago.

  1. I had the best time ever watching this blisteringly funny video
It's arguably one of the funniest film ever made on microeconomics and macroeconomics.
Just one regret: I predicted what would happen in the end barely an hour into the movie.
Anyway you will undoubtedly have a great time watching it with a bunch of friends on a saturday evening...
I placed this VHS between "there's something about Mary" and "The Monty Pythons: the life of Brian" in my videotheque.

5 comments about Self-Discipline and Emotional Control.
  1. Instructor Tom Miller needs to be the first to take his self control and discipline lecture. Not only should he participate, he must watch the tape and seriously analyze his own behavior! With a title "How to Stay Calm and Productive Under Pressure", you would expect the instructor to be a role model, wouldn't you?

He is arrogant, abrasive, loud and extremely pushy and I mean that literally. In his attempt to get the audience to understand and respond to him, he gets right smack in their face; he pokes them on the shoulder, screams while intimidating and belittling the audience.

Sure, he has the audience's attention! He makes them respond throughout the entire program! No one can "nod off" in this class.

Using the "horse within us" metaphor, he makes his point that we all have a horse within us that gets out, stomps around and does damage. The anger (the horse) we release stomps around (spewing hostilities) and here, we should learn to "corral" our horse.

You will learn how to change bad habits, control hotheadedness, handle conflicts and reduce stress. True, it's the long metaphorical route, but you get the point!! ...MzRizz

  2. Well this is a must for anyone who wants to understand (in plane language) what it take to control their emotions or change a learned behavior or habit in themselves or in someone else.

It also helps to in understanding why most people will "never change." Dr. Tom's techniques are unorthodox and a tad weird but as he said "He's just kidding " and everything is "designed to help you learn and remember."

There is so much valuable insight gained from this program. I cannot begin to convey how important this book has been to me; Mostly, in the practice of matching my emotions to the reality that I am investing them in. I have been over investing my emotions, as in Bi Polar Disorder. This Program has quite literally saved my life. Thank You Dr. Tom "popping-"thumbs Up" to you.

  3. This is a video that makes little sense and goes on and on. The guy acts like a jerk and over simplifies intrapersonal relationships. If anyone acted the way he did in a work place they would be terminated. Screaming, yelling, and making stupid faces, I thought these things got left behind in kindergarten. If he came up to me and began yelling and poking at me, I would have to warn him about boundaries he is crossing.

  4. The power of these tapes really depends on the viewer. Just like how a pen/quill can produce Shakespeare or gobbledygook, these tapes can be life changing for the positive. It has the power not just to affect one's own behaviour and outlook but in so doing it can/could have an impact on everyone we subsequently encounter.

It teaches us to better understand how 'bad' a negative event really is so that we can deal with it more constructively. All too often we may be in the habit of exagerating negative events and end up 'overeacting' to them. This overaction can have consequences for ourselves as well as those around us.

It also teaches us that everybody has weaknesses that means even though they may say one thing, they could end up doing something completely different, based on deeply ingrained habits. Awareness of this human characteristic is the first step towards doing something about it.

By far the most useful part is a focus on the misguided notion of self esteem that creates a rollercoaster of good and bad evaluations of ourselves based on how well we think we did in our latest endeavour. The Speaker teaches us that it is literally impossible to rate ourselves as a whole because humans are just way too complex with over 500,000 traits & characteristics that could be individually rated. All too often we focus on just one aspect of ourselves and if we choose to give ourselves less than 100%, we could well be inclined to say we are zero% or worthless. Coupling this 'all or nothing' thinking with 'Tunnel Vision' where we focus on but one trait or characteristic out of 500,000 is a perfect recipe for low self esteem. The speaker teaches us to discard the self esteem idea and go for Self Acceptance instead. Here we accept the fallability of ourselves and others and look to improve ourselves but realise that it is not an imperative requirement but just a sensible preference.

The tapes do not come cheap, but their potential to change lives for the better makes them one of the best investments a person could make in managing their emotional future.

The speaker's style is not the norm, but the more times you watch the tapes the more you can focus on the message and perhaps understand why the style is as it is.

If you only ever watch one self help video, make it this one.

5/5 is being inaccurate 10/5 is closer to the mark! :-)

If you buy it, then make sure that your package includes the accompanying workbook. The tapes will be less useful without it as the speaker refers to it constantly throughout the training sessions.

  5. I was at this seminar when Mr. Miller gave it in San Francisco those many years ago...and it changed my whole life. The content is humor filled and speaks directly to you; no matter WHO you are! And Miller is a brilliant speaker who "grabs you by the side of your head and shakes you up!" He is truly gifted.
I bought the tapes and workbook the day I left the seminar, not wanting to be without them afterward. I have used them a number of times to "remind my horse and driver who is boss!" LOL
Having been recently married, I have introduced my new husband to the tapes. He loves them as much as I do.
6 years and going, I have owned these tapes and benefited from Mr. Miller's words...I would not give them away or get rid of them for anything!
This is a gift for yourself and your family, friends and workmates that is worth every cent and more! You will find yourself in a great place; and others will benefit as well from your new found knowledge. And you will find yourself sharing and growing as a person. UGH! I could go on and on and on.
Trust me; trust yourself and get this set!!!
