5 comments about Accounting 1-26 and Integrator CD (6th Edition) (Charles T Horngren Series in Accounting).
- This book helped me get a good start in my Accounting college courses. It lays out the fundamental principles of Accounting simply and clearly. Its emphasis on the process leading to, creation of, and analysis of financial statements, would be very helpful to anyone who may need to understand just what a company's financial statements really mean
- This is an easy book to follow. Lots of exercises for practice and the answers are in the text so you can check and see if you got it or if you need to study more.
- This book helped me a lot understand the various topics of accounting quickly and easily. If you completely dont understand anything about accounting, this is the book for you.
- Book is in new condition, and got here very quick! Thanks so much! Will do business with again.
- I was pleased with the fast delivery service from the seller. Book is in great condition, and is exactly what the seller said it would be. I will use this seller in the future and will recommend this seller to anyone that is looking to buy a quality book at a discounted price.

- Best book so far for teahing accounting. This is the book for learning accounting.
- First of all I paid for 2 days express shipping. The book came after 5 days. Then I did not get your guide to an A which is a free pakage that comes with a new book. The point of buying a new book was just because of this pakage.I am not very satisfied with the service.
- hi i bought 2 books from these people for the first time in the past two weeks and i got the book on time and it was in great condition!
thanks
- I'm in an MBA program right now and still refer back to this book for my intermediate accounting course. I'm a tough judge on books, coming from the UC system, and let me tell you - this is one of the best written textbooks I have ever encountered. Period.
- I have read many accounting books but am using this one for my intro to accounting course because I wanted a refresher. It is the most clear and understandable that I have come across. I would highly recommend this book to people who aren't necessarily wanting to get a CPA but need to know enough accounting for say Financial, Planning and Analysis positions.

5 comments about Finance & Accounting for Nonfinancial Managers.
- I am the author. I would like to point out that the reviews that appear here, which are dated prior to May 2002, are for the previous edition. In this new Third Edition, I have worked hard to take this top-selling, clearly written book, and add content in many areas to provide more depth to the book. There are six new chapters covering tax concepts, capital structure, business plans, working capital and banking relationshsips, accountability and control, and personal finances. In addition many other chapters have been siginficantly modified and or supplemented with new information. I hope you enjoy my book.
- Though rudimentary, this book filled some gaps for me left by more advanced texts, including some definitions that I was fuzzy on, and enlightened me as to why some things are on financial statements in the form they're in, since I don't have a business education background.
The CD contains the text, which is handy on a laptop, but marred by having the text superimposed on a busy patterned background that has some kind of periodic highlights that are particularly annoying (the current generation of magazine, book and web site designers can't seem to grasp that the point of text is to be read, and that stuff that looks nifty on the computer screen may be darn near impossible to read in print; busy photo backgrounds, light text on dark backgrounds etc. belong ONLY in ads, where no one is expected to read the text anyway.) Also, the spreadsheets would have been more useful if incorporated in groups into workbooks instead of individual ones. You can't readily get numbers from one to another. And the disk titles are of the "sheet23.xls" variety, not helpful for finding the one you want, so you have to either have the book listing handy or access them strictly from the CD PDF file text. Being used to technical book web sites that contain errata, new material, suggestions from users, etc., I was disappointed to find nothing new there. And the list of web links, as usual in this fast-changing world, contains a number of missing links. I would have appreciated a good old fashioned bibliography in addition to the links, because you can usually find out of print books through a library, used dealers on the web, and most really important books and texts have current editions.
- I consistently buy this book to distribute to participants in my company's credit training seminars. I have used the previous edition and this newest edition, both of which are very informative and easy to read. To the author... Great Job!
- Business Basics Bestseller 1: The Easy, Interesting, Open-book Look at the Game of Business Numbers! 2nd Edition
If you never had this finance and accounting (F&A) stuff explained to you before, you will like "Business Basics Bestseller 1" as a basic starting point. This is not a suggestion that you substitute it for this book, just that you check it out as well. The BBB #1 book was written by a guy who is not an accountant -- imagine what that can do for cutting through the jargon accountants love without even knowing it.
BBB #1 will introduce you to the basics of business including the terms behind the numbers and where all the formulas come from before you plow into a true "finance and accounting" text. Search for "Business Basics Bestseller 1" and add it to your consideration. It can be one of your best investments. At less than 150 pages, you can zip through it. This is a beginner's book for those wanting to know such provocative things as "Where do income statements come from?" and "Are balance sheets the dirty laundry of accounting?"
- For a standard paperback trying to cover two subjects that usually take up a few phonebook-sized texts each, this one does a pretty good job. After reading, you should be able to walk away with a decent grasp of the fundamental concepts of accounting: income statements, balance sheets, LIFO vs. FIFO, etc., as well as the philosophies behind all the many millions of rules, and how to use those rules to make a company look healthier. Most of the book concentrates on accounting; coverage of finance is mostly limited to the final chapter on ratio analysis.
Note that this still isn't light reading. You probably won't finish it all in one sitting; it takes quite a bit of concentration to keep referring back to the numbers and tables and absorb all the examples. At times, there are enough of those to make this feels like a college textbook -- one that's been forced into novel-like format. Still, the guy writes with pretty good clarity.
I had already taken basic accounting in college and didn't like it -- possibly because of my professor -- so I picked up this book to give the subject a second chance. Having finished, I'm now grateful at this book for confirming my suspicion: accounting really is dry, boring material, regardless of the quality of its presentation.

5 comments about Financial Reporting, Financial Statement Analysis, and Valuation: A Strategic Perspective (with Thomson One Access Code).
- This book is TERRIBLE. I am an engineer in an MBA program. The book is supposedly for non accountants, but I don't see how it's possible to understand this book if you're not an accountant. If you're unfortunate and have to use this book, find a good book that you can actually read to supplement the subject.
There's a lot mumbo jumbo using technical terms that could be much easier stood with a table and reference to specific numbers in the table. There has got to be a better way to learn finacial statement analysis.
- I am in an MBA program too. I have to use this book as a textbook for the course, Financial Statement Analysis. I have taken Managerial Financing before and done a very good job on that course. But it doesn't help me a lot to understand this terrible book. It isn't that course's fault. I appreciate that I have taken some financing course before I use this book. I can't understand this book very well totally because this book is terrible. Both textbooks for Financing and this course are published by the same publisher, Thomas?..I couldn't believe how different those two books are.
In this book, Pepsi case keeps confusing most readers. Most equations are not highlighted so you can not find them easily and quickly. Homework is not designed for the students who are studying this book but for the authors themselves. Fortunately, our professor sends his master copy to us. It will help us understand homework more, but unfortunately after we have handed in our results.
If anyone who teaches FSA, please do not use this book as your textbook for your students. Pls, pls, pls..Even though you are an expert on accounting or finance, your students will still suffer from your course and almost learn nothing from this TERRIBLE book.
- After three years of graduate school and two Master's degrees (MPH/MBA)I have to say this was the WORST textbook I was unfortunate enough to encounter. I wish I could get a refund for both the cost of the book and the pain and suffering I endured while trying to read it. If a professor tries to get you to buy this book please say "NO"!
- I like its strategic focus and case-oriented approach. The FSAP is terrific. In this book, financial statements finally found its correct place: describe the strategic decisions made by management. This book is never dry. Instead, it is vivid, fascinating, and a great reading for anyone who is serious with a career in equity research.
- We have used this book for the Accounting II class last term. It is not bad, though a little bit complicated. Since I was with an accounting major in undergraduate, it is not tough for me.
I guess the author is trying to help you to consider the complicated accounting treatment with the underlying business strategy. Meanwhile, probably he assumes a familiarity with accounting basics of the readers.
Overall it is a pretty good text for graduate program I think. Also, you have to pay more efforts to understand it well if without an accounting background.

5 comments about Credit Risk Scorecards: Developing and Implementing Intelligent Credit Scoring (Wiley and SAS Business Series).
- This review is written by the author of a competing book, so any comments made must be taken with a grain of salt.
Mr. Siddiqi's book focuses on the development of in-house scoring capabilities, covering a broad range of development and implementation issues. Unfortunately, very few references are provided. The author obviously has a lot of experience (he works for SAS Canada), but at times the limits show. There are times when I feel that without the backing of SAS, and the current high level of interest in this topic, this book would not have the same level of acceptability.
I would recommend the book, but with qualifications--basically, it should only be read in conjunction with other works on the topic, especially if you want a view on related topics (economics, history, law, credit strategy, etc.).
- This is an excellent resource for people and organizations creating scorecards. It covers a wide assortment of topics in just enough detail to provide the "nuts and bolts." The author provided much of the material for The SAS Institute's training program on scorecard development as well. NOTE: the volume is somewhat slim and should not be considered an "encyclopedia," so if that's what you need, you'll need to augment this with other resources.
- A fantastic book for managers. The development of scorecards involves seriously sophisticated statistics, such that without a Phd in statistics, there is no point in trying. Due to this, most books on this topic fall into one of two categories: 1. Far too mathematically advanced for ordinary readers. 2. So basic as to be of no practical use. This book is somewhere in the middle. Thus, it caters for managers, providing easy to understand, yet thorough plain English explanations of all key topics, while not losing the reader in advanced maths. At the same time, it contains enough maths to provide managers with basic maths training an insight into the statistical techniques involved in scorecards. Although far too basic for statistical experts who have the job of developing scorecards, this is a fantastic book for managers who want to gain a solid grasp of the issues.
- I am a model expert in credit risk and it happened that I was looking for a text book that offers different approaches in calculating the score band. Offcourse, based on the great review and on the SAS icon on the back cover it seemed that this book is a good base line.(I was not able to read inside the book and now I know why the publisher didn't add this feature with amazon). It was really a disappionting buy for me, the author was talking about basics that every one in the industry should know??if there is any value of this book is the value of the sas code. AS,a buyer who is looking for a sas code to execute the very generic knowledge of the book, let me tell you that will see literary three small tables of four lines of code in each in the whole book...for practionares don't ever buy this book, for managers I don't know, they are managers and they should kow these basics, for people who knows nothing about the consumer industry then it is a good start.
Usually,I don't list any comments for any book becasue i research the book before the buy, but this book tricked me and it deserves these couple minutes of comment to pay back the publisher...Please don't list this book as a SAS book and remove the SAS icon from the back cover it is embaressing!!
- Well, I worked for a major consumer bank in the world. This book does not target risk manager who want to know more about scorecard strategies. This book is good for a new entrant staff or students who want to be familiar with scorecard developement. I think this book is valuable because it shows that you do not have to use comprehansive tools to develope a scorecard. All you need is scorecard knowledge, basic statistics software(SAS, STATA, SPSS), and excel for reports.

2 comments about 100 Minds That Made the Market (Fisher Investments Press).
- 100 great biographies of the most influential personalities that affect the markets even today. If you're interested in how our markets developed from it's chaotic beginning this is a great book. I particularly enjoyed the section on crooks and scams. It's amazing some of the things people will do.
- This is a great book for reading the short bios of the financial history makers. I just picked and chose the people I was interested in reading about.

5 comments about Business Analysis and Valuation: Using Financial Statements, Text and Cases (with Thomson ONE Access).
- This is a required text at my school, but after having read the first 5 chapters there is almost nothing of value that I have read. I have spoken to several people that have used this text for the class in prior semesters and they told me that they had stopped reading it after the first several chapters also.
- This review applies to the edition WITH CASES. This isn't recommended for anyone who is just starting out with choosing investments. Beginners might be better off with a more general overview of financial statement analysis (FSA) like Higgins' "Analysis of Financial Statements" or Fraser and Omriston's "Understanding Financial Statements".
This was one of two textbooks used in a financial statement analysis course I took for my MBA. Most chapters are down-to-earth and as a whole the book is well-written. The other text we used was Penman's "Financial Statement Analysis and Security Valuation" which was also a great resource as far as gaining a basic understanding of the mechanics of financial statements and how to build a valuation model. I contrast the two books because while Penman provides a run-down of several different models analysts can use (and does a good job of arguing for the Residual Income Model of valuation model as being the best), Palepu delves into the implications of companies' choices of accounting methods and provides more insight into what different kinds of businesses should look like in terms of their financial statements. The cases at the end of each chapter add a lot of value to the text because they get students to focus on the specific issues detailed in each chapter. By picking apart different companies' financial statements we learned to use financial statements to assess the success or failure of companies' efforts to carry out their business strategies. I rate it "Good - 4 stars"
- I found the chapters are not very in detail. I was using it as the textbook and the lecture notes are way better. I read the book at the begginning but stopped in the middle as it doesn't really help. However, the end of chapter case studies are pretty good.
- First part of this book is about reading financial statements. If you already know the statements, you don't need to read the first part. However, even if you can read the statements, the second part, case study, will be helpful to your real analysis.
- i bought this book based on the description. however, when it arrived was the student edition, without the cases that should have been included. the student edition on the market is half the price. i sent many many emails to ask for a return, including Amazon, but no luck. i am stuck with the wrong book for which i paid double the money!
stay away from this supplier.
