- This was a required reading for accounting 101 class at Wharton Business School. Sometimes the examples and concepts in boxes may distract you from the reading, but in general the fact that it was published this year, makes things in context.
- It is really a great book in all respects. The chapters are well organized and online material along with book is great way to learn and grasp accounting concepts.
The exercises are very good and some answers are provided on line and I think is good enough to verify the answers.
I love the book and is fun to read.
- This book is improperly labeled by Amazon. It is not usable in any North American colleges. Very curious that the yellow starburst label on the picture is conveniently blurred. This is where the warning is clearly visible when you open the package.
- This textbook was used in my introductory financial accounting course at the University of Florida, and I am planning on repurchasing it in the next few months as part of a comprehensive accounting review before starting an internship with a large professional services/accountancy firm. For a textbook, it is remarkably well-written and concise (and dare I say it...for people who enjoy accounting, enjoyable!); the real-world cases and international examples (i.e., international harmonization of standards as well as major divergences, such as the lack of LIFO in many countries) are highly relevant and help to establish a connection between the theory and real-world practices. There are more than enough practice problems to ensure mastery of the material that is covered, and as a person who is often frustrated at the abysmal lack of mention of ethics in many (if not most) business courses and texts, I was very pleased that this text provides numerous discussions of the irreducible necessity of highly ethical accounting in the post-Enron/Worldcom, Sox-driven and increasingly regulated world of the 21st century. Overall, this is a highly useful reference for those looking for a quick refresher of basic accounting and GAAP, as well as those learning financial accounting for the very first time.
- Be very careful of deceptive linking on this product! The record for the hardcover offers a paperback selection. After waiting over a week and a half for "Express" delivery while classes are going by, it turns out the paperback is the INTERNATIONAL EDITION . . . in PESOS, et al, rather than DOLLARS.
It's one thing to link to a different binding, but linking to a book with different content is an error on Amazon's part. Not only do we not have a usable book but I'm faced with making some sort of international return at what is expected to be the "buyer's expense."

- My accounting professor was awful and it was this book that saved my grade in the class. It provides very detailed explanations and summaries of each concept it covers throughout the chapter, not just at the end of the section. The accompanying working papers and study guide were also very informative and helpful.
- Best book so far for teahing accounting. This is the book for learning accounting.
- First of all I paid for 2 days express shipping. The book came after 5 days. Then I did not get your guide to an A which is a free pakage that comes with a new book. The point of buying a new book was just because of this pakage.I am not very satisfied with the service.
- hi i bought 2 books from these people for the first time in the past two weeks and i got the book on time and it was in great condition!
thanks

- With the 14th edition of this book, the use of the website for studying was taken away, to be replaced with a pay for use service of about $20. My professor would have stayed with the 13th edition had he known that they were going to take away this service to the students. No CD or access to a website for answers to the questions. Book is well written, easy to follow, but needs a more comprehensive glossary, since words and phrases within accounting mean different things and can be interpreted differently depending on the user and with accounting following the GAAP rule this becomes even more important. Practice items are well designed. The Layout of the book demands approximately 100 pages a week for a semester course, for a course in oversight of accounting this is rather hefty. Without a CD or other access privileges, I don't see a need to order this as a new item, go for used!
- as good as I imagined, and i wish i could have more chances to purchase textbooks like this~

- If your school uses this book, not only don't take this class, drop out of the school. If I could rate this with negative numbers I would. This is the worst textbook ever devised by man OR woman. If you are already a CPA looking for a review, it might be worth something, otherwise it teaches nothing. It presents examples without first explaining things then explains things using examples that have no bearing on what is being taught.
If you have to use this book, my sympathy for you. I can only hope the school will refund at least a portion of my money.
- Actually, the supplier no longer had the book available. But the supplier contacted me immediately and my account was credited almost as quickly as the money went out. So I am still a happy shopper.
- Given how dry a subject Accounting can be (especially for non-Accounting majors) - this book really was fantastic. It serves up excellent examples, has a modern, graphic and splashy style that made it easy to follow along and refer back to key terms, and I liked the tie-ins to business in the general commentary. It's a great text for a self-paced course like an online accounting course offered at Berkeley. I felt like I learned a lot from this book.
- This is the first book I have ever reviewed -- and it is only because I feel so strongly about it. This book is nowhere near being a beginning accounting textbook. The authors take for granted that the reader understands accounting terms as clear explanations are few and far between or missing completely. Perhaps the authors are far too advanced to be able to explain the basics of their business. The content is very confusing as are the multi-colored, multi-boxed, multi-fonted, multi-faceted, CNN/USA Today-style pages. I would definitely NOT recommend this book to anyone wanting to understand accounting to any degree.
- I finally got my replacement book, and it turned out the FEDEX did find the first book that was lost in the carriers hands, and I had it shipped back to Amazon.com directly.
Thanks!
Business is great.

- This book is TERRIBLE. I am an engineer in an MBA program. The book is supposedly for non accountants, but I don't see how it's possible to understand this book if you're not an accountant. If you're unfortunate and have to use this book, find a good book that you can actually read to supplement the subject.
There's a lot mumbo jumbo using technical terms that could be much easier stood with a table and reference to specific numbers in the table. There has got to be a better way to learn finacial statement analysis.
- I am in an MBA program too. I have to use this book as a textbook for the course, Financial Statement Analysis. I have taken Managerial Financing before and done a very good job on that course. But it doesn't help me a lot to understand this terrible book. It isn't that course's fault. I appreciate that I have taken some financing course before I use this book. I can't understand this book very well totally because this book is terrible. Both textbooks for Financing and this course are published by the same publisher, Thomas?..I couldn't believe how different those two books are.
In this book, Pepsi case keeps confusing most readers. Most equations are not highlighted so you can not find them easily and quickly. Homework is not designed for the students who are studying this book but for the authors themselves. Fortunately, our professor sends his master copy to us. It will help us understand homework more, but unfortunately after we have handed in our results.
If anyone who teaches FSA, please do not use this book as your textbook for your students. Pls, pls, pls..Even though you are an expert on accounting or finance, your students will still suffer from your course and almost learn nothing from this TERRIBLE book.
- After three years of graduate school and two Master's degrees (MPH/MBA)I have to say this was the WORST textbook I was unfortunate enough to encounter. I wish I could get a refund for both the cost of the book and the pain and suffering I endured while trying to read it. If a professor tries to get you to buy this book please say "NO"!
- I like its strategic focus and case-oriented approach. The FSAP is terrific. In this book, financial statements finally found its correct place: describe the strategic decisions made by management. This book is never dry. Instead, it is vivid, fascinating, and a great reading for anyone who is serious with a career in equity research.
- We have used this book for the Accounting II class last term. It is not bad, though a little bit complicated. Since I was with an accounting major in undergraduate, it is not tough for me.
I guess the author is trying to help you to consider the complicated accounting treatment with the underlying business strategy. Meanwhile, probably he assumes a familiarity with accounting basics of the readers.
Overall it is a pretty good text for graduate program I think. Also, you have to pay more efforts to understand it well if without an accounting background.

- This book is very useful as long as you sign up for the publisher's personal trainer program.
- This book got to me in great time. I got the book in only 3 days and it was in perfect condition.
- This book is not for people who don't know anything about accounting. Yes, it's a good book, but the language used is very high-level and you couldn't understand it if you weren't an accountant. I suggest this book for people who are already accountants or have accounting degrees and want to review for the CPA exam. But for new students who just want accounting for electives or whatnot, like me, it's not a good book. I didn't understand anything I read and because of this book, I have changed my major to something non-business related. Avoid classes that use this book.
- Very good text. Very clear and concise explanations. I think I may keep this one for future reference. I had to subtract one star because of the price however.
- Thank you much. I started taking an accounting class & the book came just in time.

- New book, great price just like stated. I love amazon! Save $50.00 from bookstore price and recieved it in 2 days.
- This book is very good book especially for the beginners.
It explains well about both accounting principles and their applications.
But in examples, I found some typos~
- This book gives detailed instructions on fundamental to intermediate accounting concepts. Some concepts can be easily understood without teacher assistance others are a bit hard to understand without further explanation. I bought this book because it was required for my undergraduate class in accounting.
- Book was in excellent condition. But shipping took more than 2 weeks and my email to the vendor inquiring about its status took a while before any response from vendor
.
- Forced to use this text as a part of an MBA program, I found myself pouring over every paragraph without advancing my knowledge. Additionally, the book is riddled with errors, making it even harder to establish any trust between reader and author. If you too are forced to use this text, I hope you are better at finding external resources than was I. If you are using the text for self-study and have little or no background in accounting, I strongly urge to you to look elsewhere.

- The authors have put together a text that is long on examples. It might seem redundant to some, but I think this is the right way to teach a process discipline like accounting.
Much of the book is problem sets, in fact.
Let's see, the chapters begin with study objectives. Then there are highlighted "key points." Then at the end of each lesson, there are demonstration problems, self-study questions, questions, a set of brief exercises, exercises, then problem sets A and B.
I bought the 3rd edition, although the 4th is now available. The fourth edition has different problems in the first two chapters. In many instances, only the names of the company and an occasional number are different. It would matter if you are taking this for a class where the homework is graded. If your purpose is to learn the principles that underly financial accounting, though, you are as well served by the 3rd edition.
- the book arrived a little later than i expected; but, it's a very helpful book if you want to go for accounting. the book's website is extremely useful.
- Potential Buyers,
If you are a student who is taking an accounting course and your instructor requires you to use the accompanying Wiley Plus website, do not expect to get a Wiley Plus, registration code with this product.
I purchased the text "new" directly from Amazon for an accounting class I am taking and I assumed that I would recieve the registration code I needed; I assumed wrong as there was no registration code included with my book.
If you do need the code for class and you do choose to buy this book from Amazon, you'll be best off buying the cheapest, used edition and going to the Wiley Plus site directly to get a standard registration code for around $60 dollars. Of Course keep in mind shipping costs may eat up any savings you'd get buying from Amazon in the first place!
The 1 star review actually reflects my dissatisfaction with the description of this product on Amazon's site, and not the quality of the text.
Happy Shopping!
- This is an excellent book. Each chapter starts with a real life example of the learning objectives that will be covered in the chapter. The concepts are explained in terms that are easy to understand and grasp. There are a variety of problems at the end of each chapter to reinforce the learning objectives. I would recommend this book to anybody who has little knowledge of accounting or someone who needs a refresher in the accounting principles.
- This book and the service surrounding it is absolute garbage. The positive reviews it has received are highly dubious. The book is very unclear with terminology, and the lack of answer keys to check your progress makes this worse. If you're buying this used be prepared to wade through red tape to get access to an answer key. 70 bucks for a single semester of access, and you won't have access as soon as you pay, you will also need a url from your instructor to access the site. I understand why this is needed for your class specific information but to simply access the sites tools, like an answer sheet, should not require anything more than your subscription...actually it should have come with the book.
I have taken two other classes with website support material and I did not have to go through near the trouble. I am likely to take my complaint to my colleges administration as this book would only be tolerable to someone strong in this field, which defeats its purpose.
