5 comments about Personal Financial Planning.
- We require advisors and brokers to read this in our firm. It's not totally inclusive, but NO book is. But for the average person, there is more here than they even need. This is the book for professionals to brush up on and know all facts.
- I also happen to be taking Professor Hallman's class at the Wharton School; I blieve his book is written with sufficient detail to be comprehensive, and in a language that does not necessarily exclude the layman
- I thought this book was very informative. But, I have yet to read a book better than the book I got from [...]. I wish amazon sold the book from there. It was called Best Financial Planning Book and was the absolute best book on financial planning that I've ever read. Hope that helps someone.
- This book provided a great introduction and overview to key the concepts in personal finance including, general principles, life insurance, and investment.
- I found it dry and dull and dragged myself through parts of it. It is fairly comprehensive, however, and will probably do better service as a reference when I forget material from the course.

5 comments about Accounting and Recordkeeping Made Easy for the Self-Employed.
- I felt the book was well written and he does know his stuff.... but the book was more about the history of computers than a book to learn Accounting principals, which is what I thought I had bought:( What he does write about he does well and you will learn from it A more appropriate title might be "The History of Computers and Chips" with a touch of "Accounting"
- Mr. Fox has a great understanding of the profession and was able to make good sense of a subject that is hard to understand.
- Written for business people who want to be accounting and computerized accounting systems literate. No longer does one have to be in awe of the professionals who spout jargon and keep the business person dependent on their supposed expertise. This book represents liberation for the formerly fiscally challenged.
- Half of this book deals with the technology of organizing your own business. While that would have been very helpful in 1994, it is outdated now. If you are new to technology you may still find some good advice in those sections dealing with computer hardware, software (desktop, information management, and accounting). I just skimmed those sections to make sure I wasn't missing anything.
The other half deals with the organization and structure of accounting. I found the first chapter on getting organized particularly helpful. There is also a chapter on dealing with the IRS as a self-employed individual. The remaining few chapters address accounting and bookkeeping. The accounting information is very good for anyone who knows very little about accounting. However, I found the same level of detail and instruction at the Small Business Administration website. I was hoping to find a little bit more of a how-to guide to setting up my business' accounting structure. This book is an overview of all the recordkeeping issues that a self-employed person should be concerned with. However, it just didn't give me enough detail to feel secure that I was making the right decisions for my particular type of business. I just may have to use an accountant or tax attorney to get that. I checked this book out from the library, but I wouldn't purchase it. It just doesn't have the longevity of advice that a true reference book would offer.
- Very informative and reminded me of things I had forgotten. A good book for people just starting a business.

5 comments about The Money Thing Made Easy.
- I have personally known Howard for quite a few years. I also have had the high honor of consulting with his mortgage company and therefore know him and his company very well.
I can tell you that Howard is a man of honor and has written this book, from his heart, hoping to help the millions of Americans who struggle with their personal finances.
Howard's book lays out a very easy to understand plan, that if followed, will dramatically change the way you look at money and set you on a path towards sound financial stewardship.
I would also recommend that, as you read his book, you teach these basic concepts to your children and grandchildren so that they have a leg up on this epidemic problem in our culture.
- Howards book is right on the money! We have been under Howards guidance for 8 months, and We Have gone from being in debt in excess of $100.000 with very little cash in the bank ----- To being debt free with lots of money saved and credit scores over 750! It takes two things to be financially set! A solid plan that works and the drive and determination to follow thru with it!
Howard has the plan, do you have the drive?
buy the book! WE are glad we did!

- Being in the mortgage business myself, I found this book to be a great tool in helping show my clients a way out of debt and a way to start saving.
I personally used this formula to create great wealth for myself and my family over the past 5 years. It's not brain surgery - a very simple process really! If someone had told me then what I would have been able to accomplish - I never would have believed them!
Howard took a complex matter, made it easy to understand and added his humor to make it fun to read at the same time.
- Great book. Quick Read. A must for anyone struggling with finances or better yet for students before they begin their struggle. I really enjoyed the way the author shared his personal struggles with humor!

- People tend to make finances too complex. I have used the budgeting system outlined in Howard's easy to read book for 5 years, and have watched my family's personal savings accelerate beyond what I thought possible. It really works! I coach my mortgage clients to use this system as well, and will have copies of Howard's book available from this point forward - what a great compliment to my budgeting workshop!

2 comments about QuickBooks for Not-for-Profit Organizations (Version 2004-2005).
- I am returning this book because I was disappointed with it. For $50 I was expecting more information than this book has. The publisher's description mentions that there are over 300 pages of information... well, the font is large and the screen shots take up half of a page. The information presented is not much different than you would find with the less expensive guides to quickbooks. And the payroll chapter is worthless, it suggests you might as well outsource your payroll because you might make a mistake!
- Reviewed by: Susan D. Smith, Consultant in Philanthropy [Barneveld, NY] wrote an in-depth review of the book for The Charity Channel.
A quote from the article, "The only shortcoming when purchasing QuickBooks in any version is that you don't usually receive a manual for its use. Sure, you can find answers to your questions on use online, but if you're like me, you want a manual by your side so that you can learn to use the software fully. That's where QuickBooks for Not-for-Profit Organizations by Christine L. Manor, CPA, comes in. Christine, as many of you may know, is a frequent contributor to CharityChannel discussion forums. She has developed, along with Douglas Sleeter and Joe Woodard, a terrific guide to using QuickBooks for Not-for-Profits software. " ... "If your nonprofit group or organization is thinking about switching to new software and donor reporting software, I would highly recommend both QuickBooks for Not-for-Profit Organizations, available from Intuit, Inc. and Ms. Manor's guide, available from the Sleeter Group. It fits the bill on all scores, including the all-important issues of affordability, efficiency, accessibility and long-term use. And, if your Board commends you for becoming a financial maven, you can smile and accept the thanks proudly." To view the whole review: http://charitychannel.com/article_10622.shtml
